So I looked around and I noticed there wasn't a chair...

I'm ALLLIIIIVE. Sort of. I've come back to share a dilemma with you all.

So, there's this chick, a very close friend of mine. She told me a couple of weeks ago that her boyfriend was starting a band, and they wanted me to join as a bassist. I told her I'd think about it. Apparently, she took that as a yes, and last week started telling me all this ( Read more... )

There is nothing in this world that could convince me to play emo music.

I was thinking of wearing earplugs, and if I screwed up.. that's their reward for wanting me in their band. :D

You've told her straight out that you don't want to be in the band and she still doesn't get it? Sounds like a situation that I'd somehow get myself into.

I agree wholeheartedly with britlovessims. Maybe you should be flattered that she's so insistent on having you in her band? Heh.

Very cool about playing "Norwegian Wood" at your orchestra concert.

I know. I have no idea why she'd think I'd want to play that anyway..sounds mean, but it's true. I guess I just assumed not agreeing would do the trick.

Yeah, my orchestra teacher basically caved after all my pestering. "So can we play it? Can we? Can we? Pleeeease?" Well, it worked anyway. :D

bummer. Still, you'll just have to tell her that although you like helping her out, you still do have this long term commitment to what you are doing with Cristina.

BTW, when you do have it ready, I'd love to hear what you are doing.

Thanks... I did let her know that when we worked it out yesterday. And I'd be glad to record one of our mini-jam sessions for you. :D

I'd do the show, but I don't want her to think that means I've agreed to stick with her.

Concidering she took, "I'll think about it" to mean, "Yes, I'll gladly join your band," I think doing just the one show with her will make her think you really are a part of the band.

Let her down gently, mate. If the music isn't speaking to you, you shouldn't make yourself be in the band. Your friend might get pissed, but I'm sure you two will work it out if you're honest with her.

That's exactly what I was thinking, which is why I let her know yesterday that I didn't actually want to play the show. I just pointed out our musical differences, and I think--or hope--she got the point. I was thinking of making an Eric Clapton-leaving-the-Yardbirds analogy, but I wasn't entirely sure it was appropriate. :D
