Question

Now that my music collection is growing quickly I'm looking into get a MP3 player that has some serious memory.

First question is those that have Ipods--pros & cons of them?

Second are there any alternatives that have say a 10G memory? Experiences with those?

Well being the geek that I am I have the 60GB Ipod video. it's really nice, I have had no problems with it. well put together, good sound quality, and accessories out the yin-yang

Cool! I was thinking more along the lines of 30G, but sounds good.

I'm not quite geeky enough to give you huge tech advice on this one- I've had an iPod for almost a year now- just a plain black and white screen (no vid) one with 20 gig, of which I've only filled half thus far. The info page says I have 2216 songs on. I just started having fun with putting podcasts into the mix.
I can't speak for cost, as my boyfriend gave it to me for my bday. Still, I am fond of it.
I had a Rio courtesy of another friend before that. It was a lot more compact, but was significantly limited in capacity and tricks.

I'm more interested in the day to day. Trust me if I need geek info about Ipods I can get it from my brother. I just wanted to see what my friends interactions are.

I did a quick search at Target and found that for roughly the same amount of $$$ you can get a 30G Ipod, 20G Sony, or 20G Toshiba. The more storage along makes it interesting and the possibility to carry photos and not have to take up more physical space.

I guess my biggest issue is interacting with Itunes as I've never used it.

There are a few things with itunes you need to be aware of for optimal useability-
I recommend that you make sure everything's set to MP3 rather than encoded files. Last time I checked the former was not a default.
Also, if you want to avoid issues with synching with a computer, do not use more than computer (not ipod) to store your music.
You can store playlists on the ipod or itunes, but if you want to burn the list onto disk, make sure you have it on the computer, as it isn't set up to go from ipod to disk for some dumb reason.
On the good side, I like the rating system and that you can do mass changes to songs to shift identification data, like genre or album title. It also has a handy dandy built in favorites playlist automatically once you rate your music.
Have fun!

Thanks, that actually helped a lot.

I know all the new stuff I'm burning is MP3, but I'll check the old stuff.

I'll definitely into the lists once I get stuff together.
