Watson and Crick but no Rosalind Franklin? ngl I'm a little disappointed ;D
I'm soooo excited to see scientist icons on LJ! You've done well with this whole post!

OMG, I love you so hard. I started the scientist icon project years ago and one of the reasons it took me forever and a day was because of exactly this sort of thing: should I icon Watson and Crick, the jerks, but not Franklin? Nobody is going to know who she is (grrrr) but it's WRONG to icon the guys who got all the glory and not the woman whose pioneering work made theirs possible. I eventually planned to include her for completeist/right reasons but after I made some icons, I stalled (publicity photos are *hard* -- they're so visually boring), and then a HD crash took all those lovely caps. All of which is no good excuse for having the boys and not Ms. Franklin.

I am just so thrilled that anyone else knows who she is!!!

The Watson and Crick icon is a really well construction and coloured icon but yeah I can't see past those two jerks being in it hahaha.
I think the problem with iconning is that sometimes the people you want to make icons of don't always result in good quality icons (main reason I don't icon Neil DeGrasse Tyson for every since icontest, I've tried so many times and failed!). You totally make up for missing Franklin though with the Charles Darwin icons, that man is my hero *is a nerd for his soil studies*

Confession time: I am unfamiliar with Darwin's soil studies beyond his insight into worms. My soil knowledge extends all the way from "Here's an A Horizon (*points*) and here's a B Horizon (*points*)" all the way to looking up Munsell color values. Geologists, those magical creatures, will come out, take a quick peek at the soil profile and start pointing out floods and droughts and whatnot. I can never see what it is they do. It's all magic to me. I just nod my head, say "hmmm" a lot, and madly take note on the profile map of their divinations.

Do you know of a source of screen caps for Cosmos? I'm dying to try my hand at some NDGT NdGT NDT Neil icons but I haven't found any good sources on LJ. I doubt I could do great things with the caps but I'd like to try
