Character name: Sai
Fandom: Naruto
Timeline: Right after Sakura knocks him out in chapter 482
Age: 17
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Sai's main ninja specialty revolves around drawings. Using ink combined with his chakra he can bring an illustration to life to fulfill various purposes.

Super Beasts Imitation Picture: His seemingly favorite ink technique which has wide plethora of uses.
Offensively: Sai will draw several large guardian lion-dogs or warriors to physically attack his enemies. He can also create more large scale battle drawings in the shape of figures who resemble Benevolent Kings.

Transport: He can create ink birds large enough to carry himself and others for long distance travel. So far there he hasn't shown that there any limits to how many of these he can make at a single time.

Intelligence and Tracking: For discreet reports Sai can turn the words he writes into small animals that will make their way to the intended recipient. He can also create snakes and mice to scout out an area quietly.

Ink Clones: Pretty much as it sounds. Like all characters in Naruto he can create a clone of himself, though his preferred medium is of course ink.

Taijutsu: Sai has been shown to be pretty proficient with taijutsu despite not being an expert in it like others in the series are. He was able to block attacks from Naruto and Sasuke as well as grab and subdue someone as powerful as Kabuto on his own. We can also assume that since Sai is part of ANBU that he's also skilled using the tanto he wears on his back, even if it might not be his preferred weapon.

There has also been mention in canon of Sai being trained by Root to be able to use sealing techniques, though considering there isn't much information in canon I'm going to leave this alone since it probably won't be relevant to gameplay.

How would they use their abilities?: To achieve whatever goals he or his teammates might have on the ship, whether that might be spying or protecting comrades is up in the air. It's doubtful Sai would do anything pointlessly violent.

Appearance: Sai is pale, seriously. He's as white as the paper he likes to draw on. Paper white. Really his entire is very monotone, all shades of black and white. He has black hair that's cut short, and his bangs hang over his konoha-ninja headband which is tied over his forehead in the traditional manner. His eyes are black as well with no color to define them.

For clothes his wardrobe varies a little but his general default is a mite hideous. His usual shirt is a black shirt that stops just above his abs, showing him to have some pretty decent muscle definition. The shirt has two straps around his shoulders that hold the sheathe of Sai's tanto blade in place. He wears a pair of black pants that have a pouch strapped around one leg that presumably carries his drawing supplies for easy access along with a pair of predictably black shoes. See what I mean about monotone? He also sometimes wears a tan traveling cloak if he's covering a long distance to what might be a cold area.

Background/Personality: Sai as a child did not have a name. Instead, as an orphaned child in Konoha he was chosen to be a part of Root, a secret unit within the anbu, which was konoha's high level assassination corp. Root was run by Danzou, a real douchenozzle who decided the best way to raise an elite force would be to kill the emotions of the ninja who were in it. Sai was raised and trained to have no emotions or personal connections, though he managed to retain an interest in art well enough to develop his skills. Within Root itself Sai managed to form a bond with a fellow member of the squad named Shin and the two became much like brothers despite that fact that Danzou had plans for the two to fight to the death in order to take the final step in killing their emotions.

However, before Danzou's plan could be fulfilled Shin died of an unnamed disease and Sai's memories of him were mostly lost to the conditioning he was subjected to. His only remaining tie to his brother was a storybook he was drawing, where he planned to draw the two of them successful and smiling in the center. Unfortunately that same conditioning that made him forget almost everything about Shin also made him forget how he wanted to complete the book.

It's been listed in Sai's stats that he graduated from the ninja academy when he was 9 and became a chunin at age 10 and from then on it can be presumed that from then on he functioned in the shadows doing Danzou's bidding for the next 7 years. The turning point came when Danzou gave him his new mission (and the name Sai) to be a part of Team Kakashi as a replacement for Sasuke, with a secret mission from Danzou to be completed above all else.

Personality at this point: At this point in canon, Sai is still something of a robot. His emotions are all completely repressed and he isn't able to express anything genuine. His only concern is accomplishing the goals of his mission and he doesn't even see things in the frame of right and wrong. He doesn't know the true value of comrades and exists in a sort of limbo where he's still unburdened by the bonds that Naruto and Sakura have. All of this translates into Sai being a complete and total asshole to everyone with a pulse. He is however, bluntly honest in all of his opinions and doesn't hold back, mostly because he lacks the empathy to understand how his words might effect another. He also has no real sense of self, and will later refer to himself as nobody, more of a tool than a human being. In summary at this point Sai is still emotionally repressed with no real bonds, the only thing he really holds in any value is the book he drew of himself and his brother which functions as something prove both their existences.

Anyways back to the background.

Sai, as something of an introduction to testing his teammates skills sent some of his inkdoggies after Naruto and was not impressed in the slightest (and then implies that Naruto doesn't have a dick because of how he reacted). Cue Naruto flipping his shit when he found out Sai was their new teammate. When leaving to go meet with the spy inside Orochimaru's ranks Sai continued to clash with Naruto and Sakura due to his lack of understanding regarding their bond to Sasuke. Cue Sakura punching Sai in the face.

Yamato, their temporary team leader intervened at this point and took them all to a hotel for the evening so they could all cool their heads, at which points Yamato unbeknownst to Sai placed some seeds that he could use to track Sai in case he did anything underhanded. Which it turns out was totally a part of Sai's game plan. All this shows is that you really can't trust someone whose default setting is a fake smile.

It was when they met with the spy in Orochimaru's ranks, who turned out to be Kabuto, Orochimaru's right hand man. It didn't take long for things to fall apart and soon enough everything began coming to blows. When Naruto and Orochimaru began to fight Sai retreated, ignoring the danger he was leaving Sakura and Yamato in without a second thought. When Orochimaru had finished repelling Naruto's attacks Sai approached the old ninja and presented an the possibility of an alliance with Danzou, since with their knowledge combined destroying Konoha would be a piece of cake. Being the evil creep that he is, Orochimaru agreed and he and Kabuto escorted Sai back to their evil lair.

Cue Sai meeting Sasuke, an important moment since the young Uchiha managed to inspire Sai's first emotional response in years. Fear. This was startling to Sai who had been convinced that he had capability for emotion at all. Following their less than stellar meeting Kabuto escorted Sai to what would be his quarters in the lair and locked him in. Sai sat there like a glorified lamp until Team Kakashi showed up and dragged him back outside and tied him up, demanding he tell them his true mission. Seeing that his mission had come to failure he admitted that he was indeed there as an emissary from Danzou, though he was also serving as a spy and was going to send intelligence on Orochimaru to Danzou so he could prepare for his inevitable betrayal.

Then came the unavoidable moment when Sai commented on seeing Sasuke and how he'd changed and seemed to no longer have the bonds that Naruto and Sakura. Cue Naruto giving a rousing speech about Sasuke being like his brother and how he'd even sacrifice his life to bring Sasuke home. Surprisingly when Kabuto appeared and freed Sai from his restraints, Sai turned on him and restrained him admitting he was curious about these bonds Naruto kept talking about. After getting information about the layout of the lair from Kabuto they went on their way inside.

State of Sai's personality at this point: This is the first crack in the metaphorical seal on Sai's emotions thanks a combination of Naruto and Kabuto's words. In fact this is admitted by Sai as he holds Kabuto back. ”You say people change and here I am. But there are also things that don't change. Bonds... I want to see what they're really made of.” This change takes the rest of Team Kakashi by surprise. Perhaps because of Sai's own strong bond he held with his 'brother' Shin, which while they weren't related by blood was a strong connection all the same. He's still somewhat doubtful about them but he's opening to the idea of how power the bonds of friendship really are. Emotions that he'd long since smothered are resurfacing as well as important memories, but that'll come up soon enough.

Anyways, back to the background.

Reentering the hideout/lair the team split up to search the floors with Sai and Naruto being paired off to look for Sasuke's quarters. Pausing to take a break to rest, Sai was struck by how similar Naruto was to his brother. Thanks to those cracks developing in the self he'd developed within Root he was able remember how he wanted to finish the storybook he'd drawn about his brother and himself, the two of them standing together smiling happily. Being able to remember that important thing was able to inspire Sai's first true smile since his introduction to the series.

And then Orochimaru showed up and killed the moment like the asshole moment killer he is. Naruto chose to stay and fight Orochimaru (yet again) and had Sai go on ahead to find and rescue Sasuke. Except when Orochimaru finally backed off his teammates found Sai's bingo book, which is essentially an anbu's hit list, and it just so happened that Sasuke was listed as one of the targets. A bit of an OH SHIT moment since it's a bad idea to send a potential assassin after one of his target unsupervised.

Meanwhile in Sasuke's room if this were a bad fanfic the porno music would start just about now Sai was actually going through with trying to bring Sasuke back to Konoha, citing his desire to protect the bonds that Naruto held so dear. So much for being an evil asshole. Sasuke being annoyed that Sai woke him up from his nap BLEW UP THE ENTIRE FUCKING ROOM. Drama queen.

When Sakura and Naruto came onto the scene and Sai admitted that although his true mission was to kill Sasuke he wanted to make decisions for himself because he was beginning to remember the emotions he'd long forgotten, which were very important to him. Following a pretty harsh fight Sasuke ended up leaving with Orochimaru and Kabuto and the dejected Team 7 returned to Konoha to report their failure. At this point Sai made the effort and asked Danzou's permission to keep his current name and stay on with Team Kakashi. Danzou agreed, and seemed to take some notice of Sai's newly rediscovered emotions; warning him that emotions would lead to hatred and war. Which is kind of like saying that candy cigarettes lead to being a crack addict when you're an adult. Sure it's a possibility but its a little extreme.

After this Sai become interested in creating bonds with others and to help with that whole process he... read some books on the process in the library, hoping they'd help. When he spoke to Naruto and Sakura later it was clear that Sai was unsure of how to intiate things and his first attempt at giving Sakura a nickname (he called her a hag, clearly this boy has a deathwish) resulted in Sai getting punched in the face. And in fact, later on when this convinced Sai that women like to be called the opposite of what they look like, he decided to call Ino: 'Miss Beautiful'. And once again got punched in the face by Sakura.

State of Sai's personality at this point: Sai at this point has gone from being an intentional asshole to an accidental one as he tries to make bonds as quickly as possible. In this regard, due to repressing his emotions for so long, he's very childlike in his understanding of people and their emotions. He doesn't get that nicknames aren't something be forced, but rather that they happen naturally in the course of a friendship. He takes the concepts he reads about at face value and doesn't understand the intricacies of it. The problem isn't a malicious nature, just a complete and total lack of understanding how people work that he'll slowly begin to remedy over time in the next few arcs.

Speaking of the next few arcs, Sai plays a much more diminished role, acting as support and back up to the others as they fight Akatsuki, a band of rogue ninjas whose goal was to collect all the jinchuuriki (tailed beasts like the kyuubi sealed inside Naruto), and continue the hunt for Sasuke. In fact he wasn't even present in konoha when Pein, the leader of the akatsuki attacked the village using the power of his rinnegan. Instead he was out on a team trying to hunt down Kabuto, who had become a big problem after he'd incorporated Orochimaru's cells into his body. When Sai returned after the battle, Danzou was elected as Hokage and gave Sai instructions to carefully watch Naruto and report his actions. He agreed to this task but was internally conflicted, unsure if he was comfortable with spying on his friend at the orders of his master. Later when Sakura and Naruto tried to get information out of Sai regarding Danzou he revealed the existence of the curse seal on his tongue, as well as giving away just how accepting Sai was of Roots dark secrets and horrors.

However, even Sai was surprised to learn that Danzou had broken Tsunade's promise to protect Sasuke and made him an official missing-nin. When two Kumogakura ninjas, Karui and Omoi, demanded information about Sasuke, Sai watched on as instead he took Sasuke's beating for him until Sai finally stepped in to protect his friend, showing that he couldn't stand watching Naruto being hurt so badly for someone else's sake. Sai also showed his growth as a human being when he chose to listen to Kakashi's request and lied in his reports to Danzou, showing a clear shift in his loyalties from Root to Team 7, as well as a feeling of happiness when Kakashi told him even though he was a spy he had faith in Sai.

Sai also made the decision to tell Sakura about how Naruto felt about her, hoping that Sakura would be able to free Naruto from the pain of having to try and save the man Sakura loved. He helped Sakura track down Naruto in the land of Iron where she confessed her feelings to him, only to have Naruto see through her and tell her to stop lying. What Sakura failed to mention was the group's intention to kill Sasuke themselves to prevent a war from breaking out. To make sure Naruto knew this, Sai left behind an ink clone who explained the truth, that Sakura was still deeply in love with Sasuke and to keep him from sinking any lower she planned to kill him herself. Clone-Sai then began to lead them to where Sakura was so that Kakashi could try and stop her from doing something foolish.

Meanwhile with Real-Sai and the gang of would be assassins, Sai had managed to stop Sakura from knocking out the three of them with a sleeping gas bomb since he;d suspected she'd try and get rid of them in order to perform the deed herself. Sakura, being a tricky little bitch, managed to convince the others on the team Sai was a traitor and knocked all three of them out while they were distracted. And this is where I'll be taking Sai from so BACKGROUND ENDS HERE THANK GOD.

Final summary on Sai's personality: Sai went from being something of an assholish robot to a caring and involved member of Team 7 thanks to his experiences with them. He has a strong desire to protect his dear friends from pain. This doesn't change the fact that Sai's still a bit socially retarded, but he's becoming a better person thanks to his opening up. Seeing as he's so new with bonds Sai ends up being unsure as he'll ask permission to participate in a certain 'friendship building activity' and sometimes he'll completely miss the mark (like when trying to give someone a nickname) but he does put in the effort. He's also willing to put the close friendships he's developed ahead of his loyalty to Danzou and Root, which previously to his time in Team 7 had been his entire life, showing that he's truly changed from the beginning of the series.

1st person sample: [Video;]

[The video flickers a bit as you get a close up of Sai's face, which is rather blank as he makes sure the video is on. Once satisfied it is he sits back a bit.]

Ah... the caretakers of this place have told me my planet has been destroyed, which is rather troublesome...

I was wondering if anyone had seen my fellow teammates. [Playing with the guide tools Sai brings up a drawing program and quickly draws out four pictures.]

[Naruto. Sakura. Kakashi and Yamato. And even worse they come with vital statistics like height, weight, hair color and penis size. Except Sakura for obvious reasons, instead for her you get her chest/waist/hips measurements. Don't ask why Sai knows all this. Just. Don't.]

If anyone has seen then I would be very grateful.

3rd person sample:

If anyone had ever suggested that Sai would someday be sitting in an art class doing a figure study on a six armed gender neuter alien he would have probably just brushed it away with a fake smile and assumed that whoever had said it was mentally deficient. Instead, thanks to whatever strange happenstance had caused Sai to be on the Thor he was accepting it as his current reality as he worked on accurately reproducing the line of muscle along the alien's abdomen.

He wasn't sure on how to handle the sudden freedom that came with being on the ship. The curse seal on his tongue was gone, which left him wondering if Danzou had died before he'd been brought aboard the Thor or if it was a sign that their world was truly gone.

Fingers stained with charcoal, Sai continued drawing the neuter alien trying to understand the muscle of its six arms. They were unusual, not really jointed and more smooth with what looked like...

Impossible. It had to be impossible.

Taking a moment to recall the books he'd read on speaking to strangers he made sure to smile politely before tapping the shoulder of his neighbor. “Ah, pardon me. I was wondering if you knew... The model. Its arms-”

“Arms? Those ain't arms, kid!”

“Oh. Thank you for the... clarification.”

Coughing discreetly to hide his reaction to the information, Sai corrected his initial decision. Apparently it was more than possible. Almost to emphasize this fact the model made a signal to the instructor and he shuffled to the center of the room carrying six buckets.

“Pee break! Take five, everyone!”

Questions?: Can I dedicate the 3rd person sample to Inc? It's all his fault that its so hideous.
Did you put your characters name and fandom in the subject: Hopefully

garglblasted, inc is an asshole, app
