-I THOUGHT IT WAS YOU 3-
"Yuto please. I need you." Yuto suddenly woke up from his slumber. He was sweating a lot and his breathing got uneven. He looked to the side and sighted his clock; it showed 2:45 in the morning. That dream again was haunting him. It has been going on for a year already and he found no way to escape from it. He feels completely trapped in his own dream.
Yuto decided to go down stairs and grab a bottle of water and calm his system down. Tea is good to drink in this situation too but he was too lazy to make tea for himself. He does have a mini fridge but he forgot to store it with food and drinks. Yuto got out of bed and walked out his room without making too such noise. No one wants to wake up everyone in the house at almost 3 in the morning. Especially Ryosuke because he gets cranky when he doesn't have a straight or smooth sleep. He reached the kitchen but noticed he wasn't alone.
"Inoo-chan? You're up early." Kei was sitting on the counter seats, sipping some tea and eating a cupcakes; it was the left over from earlier.
"I can't sleep. You want one?" He raised his cup at Yuto. He nodded his head and Kei grabbed another cup and poured some green tea inside for him. Yuto settled beside Kei on the counter seats.
"How bout a cupcake?" Kei offered this time. Yuto was quite reluctant at first but he couldn't deny the cupcake did look delicious.
"Sure. Why not?" Kei went to fridge and grabbed a small silver tray with the left over pastries. There was still a tart, 2 cupcakes and some small cakes left. Yuto was awed with the variety of pastries. He never thought something like this was inside their refrigerator.
"Where'd you buy all of these?" He asked Kei, still keeping eye contact with the different desserts. 'It must have cost a lot to buy all of these.' was what Yuto thought.
"We didn't buy these." Kei replied then asked Yuto what would he like from the choices. Yuto pointed at the small chocolate cake and Kei picked up the cake and placed it on a small plate. He slightly pushed the cake towards Yuto then returned back the tray inside the fridge. Yuto was staring at the cake and felt a somewhat nostalgic vibe into it.
"Then where did you get them?" Yuto asked while slicing a small piece and ate it. Suddenly, a memory just flashed in his mind. A memory he never thought he still had. His heart started thumping fast. Yuto was frozen in his place and Kei just looked at him and smiled.
When Yuto and Ryosuke were dating before, Ryosuke would always make an effort to cook or bake for Yuto. Everyday during lunch break they would eat their lunch that Ryosuke has prepared on their usual place. They would have a picnic under the sakura tree in the courtyard of the school.
Everytime Yuto takes a bite of whatever Ryosuke makes for him really sends him to heaven. He can feel Ryosuke's love overflowing in the food. Every bite gives him a different feeling and it gets better and better. But the best thing he has ever tasted was Ryosuke's chocolate cake. It was just a simple chocolate cake with chocolate frosting on top but it was the best thing Yuto has ever tasted.
"I never thought I would taste something like this again." Yuto said while wiping the tear that fell from his eye. He got teary-eyed from the feeling he got when he ate the cake. Just like before he still feels Ryosuke's love overflowing even more. He took another bite and another savoring every little bit of it. Yuto would be lying if he said he never missed eating it.
"It was the first time in a year that he baked." Kei told Yuto who was still busy eating his chocolate cake. He even had frosting on the side of his lip. Kei pointed it out and Yuto wiped his mouth with his thumb. One last bite of the cake was left and Yuto was just staring at it. He thought of what Kei told him and realized that the reason why Ryosuke baked today was because he was there. Ryosuke wanted him to remember his love for him. Yuto forked the last piece and ate it while closing his eyes, feeling such a warm feeling inside him especially in his heart.
"Inoo-san, can I have another piece?" Yuto faced him and had this look that he was serious and somewhat needing. Kei was surprised that he asked him for another piece. He nodded his head and went back to the fridge and pulled out the tray of desserts again then placed it on the counter top in front of Yuto.
"This is what he gave me for Valentine's day." Yuto picked up the red velvet cupcake and sliced the middle with a knife. It felt light and fluffy just slicing through it. A smile was grazing on his lips. Those memories which he thought he had forgotten just suddenly returned and it lighted up his face. Kei was surprised seeing Yuto smiling. He could see some hope within the two of them but something just made Kei truly wonder.
"Yuto?" He called out his name. Yuto stopped eating and looked at Kei raising his brows.
"Why don't you love Ryosuke anymore?" Yuto's smile fell. Some memories blocked his sight. His brows furrowed and his jaw clenched and Kei noticed that it affected Yuto so much.
"I'm sorry for asking something like that but I just want to know your reason. Atleast It could lift off some burden on my shoulder. Since your break up I was really wondering why you don't love him anymore and I've been blaming myself for not trying to find out why. I want to protect Ryosuke and everytime he asks me what he had done wrong for causing you to hate him all I could do was keep quiet." Kei looked back to the times Ryosuke kept on crying and blaming himself for everything. He was a mess and he didn't leave his room for a week. Kei would always take care of him and Ryosuke would always ask him what he did wrong. Kei couldn't answer because he didn't want to tell Ryosuke something not true and just ruin everything.
"I know you all love Ryosuke but I can't tell you now. I have a promise I need to keep." Yuto excused himself and returned back to his room, leaving his cupcake unfinished. Kei let out a sigh and just cleaned up the table and washed the dishes.
Yuto fell on his bed his back facing up. He buried his head on his pillow and gave out a sigh. It was already 4 in the morning and he wasn't getting sleepy. It was more like he didn't want to go to sleep anymore. His dream really scared him. He didn't want to see it again. Yuto was buried deep in his thoughts then suddenly his phone rang. He picked it up from his bedside table and looked at the caller.
"Hello?" Yuto answered the phone.
"Nakajima-san?" A panicking voice was heard on the other line.
"Yes
?" Yuto was getting scared of what he was bound to hear. Their conversation continued and Yuto just kept on saying yes until he heard something he never wanted to hear.
"I'll be on my way." Yuto sprang out of bed and ran out his room. Kei was still in the kitchen and as he heard running footsteps he looked out and saw Yuto putting on his shoes.
"Where are you going?" Kei asked but Yuto did not answer. He harshly opened the door and ran out the mansion. Kei was confused why he ran out like that.
Yuto on the other hand kept on running on the streets. He forgot his wallet so he could only run. He finally arrived at his destination. It was the hospital near the university. Yuto ran up to the front desk and asked for Yuri's name. After getting his room number without thinking twice he ran up the stairs and arrived at the 3rd floor.
He looked for Yuri 's name and found it at the last door on the left. Yuto tried to ease his breathing before entering the room. He knocked 3 times then opened the door. What met his first was already dreadful for him. Yuri was lying on the bed with tubes stuck on his arm and a tube in his nose for breathing.
"Yuri." He called out as he walked towards him.
"Konichiwa." Yuri had a smile forming on his lips. He motioned Yuto to sit on the chair beside his bed.
"Are you stable now?" Yuto asked with concern as he ran his hand on Yuri's hair.
"The doctor was here just a while ago." Yuri answered him. Yuto gave another sigh over relief and continued on combing Yuri's hair.
"Ne Yuto." Yuri called out to him and he hummed in response.
"I won't be long anymore so it's already fine if you tell them." Yuto stopped combing his hair and rested both his hands on top of Yuri's.
"Don't worry. I kept a promise and it's something I won't break." He kissed Yuri's forehead and Yuri smiled.
"I love you." Yuri said with smile.
"I know." Yuto replied. Yuri's smile started to drop. Yuto noticed it but he knows Yuri knows why he said it.
"You should take a rest." Yuri nodded his head and Yuto tucked him in then placed another kiss on his forehead. Yuri started to close his eyes and got some sleep.
"Now I know your reason." Yuto snapped his head to door and was surprised to see Kei standing there. Yuto couldn't voice out anything so he dragged Kei out the room and led him far from Yuri's room.
"How did you know I was here?" Yuto asked with a shocking tone.
"I followed you. I realized something was up so I followed you when you got out of the house." Kei explained how he found where he was.
"You made him a promise didn't you?" Kei added. Yuto sighed for the third time today and he knew he couldn't get out of this one.
"He has no one left." Yuto started off. " Yuri already had a crush in me in high school. He wanted to confess but he found out that Ryosuke likes me too he started shutting his feelings for me. But one day, the day Ryosuke and I broke up, before that happened Yuri talked to me in the courtyard and he confessed his love. Of course I did not accept his feelings for me but then he told me his story." Yuto still remembered that day fresh in his mind. He could never forget it because it always caused those aching flashbacks in his mind.
"Yuri has cancer and it's not that easy to deal with. He doesn't have a family anymore. His dad left him when his mom died. He stayed with his grandparents but then a fire burned down their house together with his grandparents. He was out running some errands at that time. Yuri had no where else to go. He couldn't ask his best friend because they had a big misunderstanding the night before. That's why he asked me."
"Yuto Please. I need you." Those words have been replaying in Yuto's mind for the past year. Whatever he does it won't leave him. It's like a curse that reminds him what he has to live with now.
"Well that's selfish of him." Kei said with a serious tone. But Yuto was shocked of his response.
"So what if he has cancer. he just can't steal other people's boyfriend. Didn't he realize how much pain Ryosuke felt after that? So what if he and Ryosuke had a fight? That's normal for friends. He just used his disease to get what he wanted and that was you. He didn't care about Ryosuke as long as he had someone he loved." Kei was actually pissed at hearing Yuto's story. How could he make use of his disease to get what he wanted and not think of the outcome for others.
"You don't understand. He had no one else-"
"Then what about his best friend. How can he call Ryosuke his best friend if he can't even tell him the truth. He could've apologized to Ryosuke. I mean that kid is as soft as pudding! He couldn't stay mad at Yuri for all I know." Kei was already fed up with all of it. He was on the verge of exploding.
"He doesn't want him to worry. "
"But he left Ryosuke with pain! Ryosuke cried every night blaming himself for doing something he didn't do! His best friend and his boy friend cheated and lied to him! Didn't Yuri ever think of that?! Is he really that selfish?!" Kei was already crying. He felt sorry for Ryosuke who was mounting all his pain just for nothing.
"Ryosuke has long way to go in his life but Yuri's days are just numbered. He only has up to next month to live." Yuto tried to make Kei realize how much Yuri needed him. He just wants to make him happy until his last breath. Everyone deserves to be happy right?
"Then that's good news." Yuto was surprised at Kei's reply. Did Kei want Yuri to die? "Atleast Ryosuke would have less burden on his mind." Kei left glaring at Yuto and he couldn't utter a word. He was glued in his place and he couldn't feel his body. Is this how heartless Kei is? That he would let Yuri die just for Ryosuke's happiness?
