i guess, technically, part 1 was buying the stuff...so this is actually part 2.
i made a huge mess of the flat in my attempt to trim one of the polystyrene flower arranging rings with a saw. it sorta worked though so all good there. i'm using 2 of these polystyrene rings as a frame for the hat, held in place with some pieces of dowel.
here's a picture of it at that point. it's upside down.
not particularly straight i know, but i'm hoping it'll hold together. after that i made the brim. 2 cardboard rings glued together (to make it stronger) and half a toilet roll tube between them on either side (to make it curl up). i covered the brim in material seperately and then glued the whole thing onto the frame, adding a cardboard circle to the top as a lid.
sorry about the colours - the flash on my new compact is a killer and the light bulbs here are so energy saving they're practically orange.
not sure if i'm going to try to cover the rest of it tonight, or save it until later... :-)
