This isn't what I expected...

... but truthfully I don't know what I was expecting. Let me explain: I had kind of a depressing conversation about the economy with my dad when I got back from L5R today. My dad and I are pretty close, in fact all of my family is pretty close. I really feel like I've grown up in a very supportive environment, which has probably led to my confidant ( Read more... )

Although I know I have very little room to talk, as I've delayed my own outing into the "real world" by taking more schooling and not having a romantic relationship, I hope I can provide some assurance to your worries. The economy won't always be in a downward spiral. Will it get worse? That is very probable. But it will eventually get better. It might take a year or two, but the American economy has shown an amazing amount of tenacity to those of us who've studied it; it always seems to adapt and re-invent itself whenever the rules to the game change. In these hard times it is often difficult because we see people we care about get squeezed financially; but as long as you maintain a support network of connections, friends, and relatives, both emotional and financial, you can persevere. That being said, it's also important to realize the responsibility you have to help others as well, though I hardly think I need to tell YOU that, as I haven't ever found a person more sensitive to the needs of others and who is more willing to ( ... )

You said it pretty well Russ.

I don't want to repeat what Russ just said, but I'll be damned if he isn't right. The American Economy is such a unstoppable force. While I believe not only myself but several others of my friends are so very worried about the economy situation right now (Be glad you don't have to drive. >_<), and we are stressing out about our squeezed financial situations, it will get better.

For me to use this has to be some kind of irony, but, have faith. Have faith in this country.

It seems to have a knack to pick itself right back up and keep on running full bore.

The economy has a bad tendency to ebb and flow. While 60,000 sounds like a lot, there have been economic depressions where more than that has been lost per month, and there has been a score of depressions even over our lifetime. Albeit these were somewhat minor in comparison to the current situation, they still kind of pale to the bigger ones in times past. While 60,000 are lost, there are also a number gained, lest 60,000 be the net number of additions plus losses.

The economy may...well, lets face it, is a subject of heavy concern right now. But just like most things in life, it ebbs and flows. It just so happens that graduating around this time for the precepts that many go into to get a higher education has dumped a fair bit of my friends into this depression economically and it is worrying a pretty fair deal of them as well.
