She sets the table.  Place mats, dishes, glasses.  For two.  She makes a meal in the kitchen and she tells the cook to go home and let her do this on her own.  She needs to make amends, to tell him she's sorry for behaving so poorly over the last couple of weeks.  He shouldn't have to put up with her.  Silently she dresses.  With a mirror.  She's ( Read more... )

Justin has never felt any particular inclination to be away from his house and truthfully, it's easy to keep your distance in a house as enormous as the DuMorne ancestral home.

Beyond being in the house, he had a supernatural sense that was connected to the house. He could sense everything going on there. And he knew, from how much time she'd spent in the kitchen and how much time she'd spent getting herself ready for this dinner that it was special and she probably wanted him around.

He takes his time getting there, but eventually, he does make it to the table. It's important to send the silent message that this and everything that goes on in his house is according to his terms.

She's sitting at the dining room table. There's an empty glass of wine in front of her. It use to be filled, then it was empty and then it was full again, and now it's once again empty. If she stares at it really, really hard it will once again become full again because reaching over and pouring another glass of wine is a lot, and I mean, a lot of effort.

He enters and she stands sudden, upsetting the chair and nearly upsetting her empty glass of wine. Standing she finds her feet which takes a few tries because the god damn floor keeps shifting and her eyes are unable to focus on the other end of the table, which gives her the apperance of a pouting, near sighted old man.

"Justin!" This is a declaration to all the hall. Empty. Vacant. Desolate. "Dinner is served!" Is she drunk, why yes, yes, she is.

It makes the hair bristle on his neck to see her in this state, but it's not wholly unexpected. It's the state he'd be swimming though, usually, if not for an incredibly gifted biology or perhaps unfortunate biology. Sometimes it was hard to say.

"Have a seat, Jane." He said, while pulling out a chair for himself at the second place setting.

Sit Jane, Sit. Jane sits. Good Jane. She puts her hands in her lap and focuses very hard on not making any sudden and uncontrollable movements. She didn't mean to get drunk. She meant to sit here and wait for Justin until he decided to make an appearance but something went wrong and now she gets to feel that look.

After a hundred years of living you perfect looks. Justin has mastered the look of utter disdain, and without saying a word can make one feel lower then dirt. It makes Jane feel like a bug.

"I made dinner," captain obvious states, "I hope it's not cold. I can heat it up if you'd like."
