tehzo Entering the Torch office Chloe was mad. Her photo on the Prom Queen poster had ruined her mood. It was unbelievable that someone would even consider her to be Prom Queen let alone actually nominate her. She had two good ideas of who had done it though and they were both waiting in that office.
“Now, should I bow when I see you, or...”
“Cute,” Chloe said effectively cutting Clark off, “But I know you had something to do with this.”
“Now, sweetie, don’t get angry at Clark,” Oliver said rounding the desk to stand next to her.
Raising an eyebrow at Oliver she said, “So you had something to do with this.”
“Does it matter Chloe.”
“Yes, Oliver, it matters. What part of boycott don’t people understand?”
“You see they understand it perfectly and that’s why they’ll vote for you.” Oliver explained, “You are the boycott.”
Clark gave a nod, “He’s right. The last four years, everyone has been trying to break out of the stereotype they’ve been stuck in. They consider you a battle cry and you should find it flattering.”
“Alright, out with it. Who did this to me?” Chloe demanded, going in for the kill and putting her hands on her hips.
“I may have spoken to a few people,” Clark said with a sly smile, “But the idea was all Ollie’s.”
Oliver held his hand up in surrender, “I just said you’d look good in the crown. I didn’t say anything about actually doing anything about it.”
“I hate you both,” she sighed taking the work she came to get before leaving.
Sighing Oliver grabbed his backpack and followed Chloe out into the corridor, grabbing her shoulder before she slipped out of his grasp. Turning her around and placed his hands on her hips and pulled her closer.
“Please don’t hate me. I was only joking when I suggested that you should be nominated. It’s not my fault that Clark took it one step further than I had intended.”
Chloe sighed before reaching up on her toes and placing a gentle kiss on his lips. “You are so gullible, boyfriend, it isn’t even funny.”
Oliver shook his head, “So you just did that to be a pain.”
“No, I did it ’cause it’s fun to watch you squirm. You’re so cute when you do it,” Chloe replied before turning and leaving.
*********
Placing a last touch onto her hair as the doorbell rang Chloe took a step back and looked in the mirror. She still couldn’t believe that she’d pulled her hair and make-up off by herself but there was a first time for everything.
Deciding to let Oliver sweat it out with her father down stairs for a little bit she slipped her heels on. It still shocked her that Oliver had wanted to date her. After all she was the girl who sat in the corner and looked on as the guy she liked was swept up into the arms of another girl while she was left with her broken heart. But Oliver hadn’t done that. It didn’t matter that she had hidden her feelings for as long as she could or that she wasn’t as pretty as the other girls in their grade, for some reason, completely unknown to her, Oliver wanted her and that still shocked her more than she wanted to believe was possible.
Taking one last look in the mirror she sighed when she caught a glimpse of the latest edition of the Torch. Dawn’s death had been a shock to everyone but somehow school felt like a better place to be without the tyrant there controlling everything. Chloe was still shocked that there wasn’t more to the story than that, it was Smallville after all. But nothing wall of weirdish happened and life just continued.
It was nice that nothing weird happened though. She didn’t want to chase a story, not when she could be dancing with Oliver, at her prom. It felt weird to have that feeling, where the story wasn’t the most important thing in her life but somehow it felt right.
Grabbing her bag and taking one last look in the mirror before heading to the lounge room where she was sure that her dad and Oliver were hold up.
“...and if she isn’t home by midnight we’re going to have a serious problem.” Her dad said a slight tome of menace in his voice.
“That’s fine sir.”
“No it’s not,” Chloe said stepping into the room, “My curfew’s one, on nights that you’re home to enforce it. So that shouldn’t be any different tonight.”
“But tonight you have a date.”
“Yes dad, but you’ve met Oliver before. You know he’s a nice guy.”
Walking over to her he placed a gentle kiss to her forehead before saying, “I know but give me something. You’ve never brought a boy home before.”
“That’s not true I’ve brought Clark and Pete over before.”
“But they never had any romantic intentions before.”
Chloe laughed and patted her dad’s cheek gently, “I’ll be ok dad.”
“Fine. I’m going to go get the camera. No one leave before I get photos of how beautiful my little girl is.”
“Dad,” Chloe groaned as he left the room. Oliver laughed as he stood up from the lounge and walked over to her.
“You look amazing,” he whispered, his eyes travelling the length of her body, “Now I think I need you to spin for me.”
Allowing him to take her hand she twirled around in a circle, his eyes to take in her dress. Noticing the longing in there she realised that the she’d made the right decision when she had purchased the brown floor length halter top with a pink ribbon wrapped around her rib cage and covered the hem of her plunging halter all the way up to her the tie resting at the base of her neck. The dress had cost a pretty penny but it was more than worth it for the looks he was giving her. The hours spent perfecting her hair and makeup and squeezed her feet into shoes that were probably too small for her feet. She kept hearing Lana’s voice in her head, telling her that beauty was pain, even though she was counting the seconds until she could take these heels off. Here she was her proof though.
Laughing as Oliver spun her towards him she smiled at him, taking in the way he looked in his tux. He’d chosen well. The tux made him look fine and why she hadn’t bothered to see him in a tux before now was beyond her. She thought Clark had looked great in a tux at their freshman formal but that was nothing compared to how Oliver looked and there was the added bonus that she knew that wasn’t going to leave her all alone on the dance wondering where he had gone. For that she was really grateful for, the knowledge that one of the most humiliating moments in her life wasn’t going to happen again was a relief.
Compelled she kissed him gently on the lips before pulling away, “My dad didn’t grill you too badly, did he?”
Oliver smiled, “Not too badly, but it was for a long time. Though now I’ve seen you I can’t exactly complain about it. Have I told you that you look beautiful?”
“I believe the word you used was amazing not beautiful so feel free to tell me.” Chloe replied.
Kissing her gently again he whispered, “You look amazing and beautiful, Chloe. More beautiful than I think I’ve ever seen you look before.”
“That’s so sweet of you Oliver,” Chloe replied. Before she could kiss him again her dad re-entered the room. Stepping out of Oliver’s arms she smiled to her dad, pretending that she wasn’t kissing a boy in their living room.
Moving back to the couch Oliver picked up the pink corsage that he had brought for her. Taking it out of its box he slid it over her wrist with a smile saying, “Lana told me which colour to pick, since she knew and I didn’t. Though I’m glad she told me now I was planning to buy you a green one and that wouldn’t have suited the dress at all.”
Chloe laughed, “Well thank you, especially since I was expecting a green one.”
“Ok, photo time,” Gabe said waving his camera at the two of them.

Walking into the school gym Chloe couldn’t believe they had managed to turn this place into something half decant. A disco ball hung from the ceiling and fairy lights had been strung across the room, giving the place a glowing effect. Smiling she tapped her fingers onto the back of Oliver’s hand to the rhythm of the current Lifehouse song playing. Taking in the people around her she gasped in shock when she saw Clark with Lois.
Nudging Oliver she pointed and whispered, “Am I really seeing what I think I’m seeing?”
“You mean Clark her with your cousin and not Miss Lang. Yeah I see that, I don’t believe it though.” Oliver replied, “I thought Clark and Lana had been getting close again after she and Jason broke up.”
“So did I,” Chloe replied with a shake of her head, “Obviously not as close as he’s been getting with my cousin though. It’s a good thing that Lana wants to wallow alone tonight instead of being here.”
Oliver laughed, “I agree. Now I say we leave them to their romantic drama and concentrate on us tonight. You’ve got a crown to win.”
Chloe groaned, “Why must you remind me of that ridiculous boycott.”
“To be fair you boycotted first,” he replied. Rubbing his shoulder after she punched him he continued quickly, “Let’s dance. It will take your mind off the voting for a while, ok.”
“Fine, it’ll give me a great reason to step on your toes.”
Laughing Oliver pulled her onto the dance floor. Sliding one arm around her waist he couldn’t help but feel glad when she placed her hand on his shoulder and her head on his chest. Placing his chin on her head he smiled, not remembering the last time he had felt this content.

Smiling as Lois came over and hugged her Chloe couldn’t help but feel a little concerned at the ecstatic words coming out of her mouth.
“Isn’t this amazing? We are going to have so much fun!”
“Lois I think you’re been drinking too much kool aid or maybe just too much punch,” Chloe whispered in her ear before pulling back, “Why are you here with Clark?”
“Well, I’m not sure, he asked and I couldn’t help but say yes,” Lois shrugged. “I know he likes Lana but he didn’t want to go with her and he didn’t know how to say no when she asked without hurting her feeling so he told her that he was coming with me and here we are.”
“Ok, but that doesn’t explain why Clark didn’t want to go with Lana.”
“You’re going to have to ask your best friend that one cuz, I just can’t help you,” Lois said as Oliver rejoined them with two cups of punch, “Oh punch,” she said taking one of the cups he was holding.
“Well one of those was for me but you feel free to have it,” Oliver said, holding the other cup out to Chloe.
“Well Clark’s not getting me any,” Lois replied with a shrug.
There was a tapping on the microphone before Oliver could say anything else. Turning towards the stage they waiting for the woman to speak, knowing for what was about to come.
“Excuse me, everybody! Excuse me!” The woman said, “Thank you. If I could just have your attention for a moment it’s time for a big announcement.”
Chloe turned and buried her face into Oliver’s neck before saying, “If by some weird reason I actually win the tiara burning party is at my house.”
Rubbing his hand over her back Oliver just smiled and let her stay where she was.
“You voted and the results are in. This year’s Smallville High Prom Queen is...” The woman on stage said, pausing for dramatic effect as if she could feel the student body hum with excitement. The drummer did a drum roll before the woman continued, “Chloe Sullivan!”
The crowd erupted with claps for her as Chloe groaned into Oliver’s neck, “Tell me it’s a weird dream.”
“Sorry, I can’t do that,” he whispered as she pulled away and made her way up onto the stage. Taking the flowers, letting them place the tiara on her head and taking the sceptor that was handed to her she sighed before heading towards the microphone.
“For all you out there who voted for me two things that you should know. One learn the meaning of the word boycott and two I will find out who you are and make it my mission to destroy you. You have been warned.” Chloe said into the microphone before moving away.
When the students started to chant her name she realised that they all thought she was joking. Looking out to see Oliver she smiled when she saw him laughing. She was pretty sure that they could be great together. Somehow he balanced her out and that’s how she knew, in that moment, that there was no way that she would be carrying out her threats.
Turning back to the woman at the microphone she waited to see who would be crowned her King. She hoped it was Oliver, she wouldn’t mind spending more time dancing in his arms, though there was always time for that later.
“And this year’s Smallville High prom King is... Clark Kent.” The woman said as the crowd gave another cheer.
Chloe groaned, of course it was Clark, the irony was too big for it not to be him. She smiled at him though as he took his crown as his place beside her s the crowd cheered. At least now she would be able to get some answers out of him about the Lana situation.
Ensuring that there was a healthy amount of space between them as they finally had their dance the laughter that had been threatening to bubble up since the announcement was made finally made it to the surface. She laughed harder as Clark joined in they spent half their dance laughing like they hadn’t laughed with each other in a long time. Even before she and Oliver had ended up together they had being spending a lot of time together. She had gotten a little bored of Clark’s constant whining about Lana and Oliver had really cared about what was going on in her life. She was glad that he had been one of her best friends.
Finally containing her laughter she asked, “Why didn’t you bring Lana?”
“I just couldn’t for some reason,” he whispered, “I can’t explain it. All I wanted was to ask her but then I kept thinking about how we didn’t work and why we shouldn’t be together and suddenly it made sense. You’re not supposed to be with the girl next door, she’s just supposed to be your fantasy and now I’m letting it go.”
“Well that very noble of you Clark. So why did you bring Lois?”
“She is most defiantly not the girl next door.” Clark said with a smile, “And sometimes there’s this light in her eyes, when she’s not being silly or mean, and I’d like to see where that might take us.”
“Have you discussed that with her?”
“No but if she knew she’d stop me and where’s the fun in that?”
Chloe laughed as the song ended and the two separated. Smiling, she saw Oliver heading over to where she was over Clark’s shoulder.
“Well you take care with that. She may not say it much but she has a fragile heart, just like everyone else, and I don’t want you to crush it.”
Clark nodded as Oliver joined them, “I’ll do my best not to.”
Oliver watched as Clark left to talk to Lois, “What was that about?” he asked, taking her hand and pulling her to him so that they could dance.
“He’s making a move on my cousin.”
“Are you ok with that?”
“More than anything, as long as he doesn’t crush her heart, they’re ok in my books.” Chloe replied, reaching up and placing a gentle kiss on his lips.
Smiling he held her closer, swaying along to the song that was playing. Chloe placed her head on his shoulder again and looked over to where Clark and Lois where dancing. He cousin might not know it yet but she was defiantly falling for Clark. It was a good thing, her cousin deserved to be happy and she hoped Clark could do that. But if he couldn’t she was more than willing to kick his ass, with her boyfriend’s help of course.
They were at the perfect prom after all.
