geek_or_unique Pulling Chloe out of the room he was unsure how he was going to handle the situation. It wasn’t seeing her with Bruce that made him mad but seeing what Bruce was doing. When they were at Excelsior’s together Bruce always seemed to have a way with women and it never bothered him before he turned his sights on Chloe. She was his wife and that should have meant something to Bruce. Obviously it didn’t. Now as he pulled Chloe away he couldn’t help but be a little sad about his possessive nature, it would cost him dearly tonight, but when he’d seen them together it had made him fume.
Chloe didn’t help the situation though, wearing what she was wearing. He had known the minute she had shown it to him that he would have to be beating the men off with a stick but he hadn’t expected it from Bruce. Maybe that was his problem: he was always underestimating Bruce even though he constantly proved himself to be a threat.
Settling upon a room, a hallway away from the main ballroom, he gently pushed Chloe in, keeping hold of her arm. The back of her dress was stunning. The halter from the front had formed a criss-cross pattern that held the sides of the dress up and met with another cross that held the back of the dress in place. The dress ended in her mid back, giving the slightest view of the tattoo she had gotten on their honeymoon, and fell to her feet. If he’d had a choice he would be ripping the thing from her now instead of having the dispute they were about to have.
Watching as she turned to him fuming he gave a sheepish smile while admiring the front of the dress. It was a halter in design, the triangles of material surrounding her breast was ruffled, and was lined with a gemmed belt at the waist. It was classy and elegant, like his wife, but also tempting that left him, and every other guy in the room, wanting to see more.
Moving around the room he was impressed by what he saw. He always knew that other billionaires filled their houses with overpriced stock, he was just happy to discover that Paul wasn’t one of them. The room was filled with a simple desk and lined with bookcases. Smiling he ran a hand down the frame with the picture of Paul and his family in it.
Looking at her face again he wasn’t surprised to see her fuming. While she enjoyed his caveman tendencies in the bedroom she didn’t enjoy them when they were out, especially when she thought that the conversation was harmless.
“Well?” she asked with a raised eyebrow, keeping her anger under control, “What’s wrong this time?”
“Bruce -”
“Bruce is our friend and while he likes to rile you up he’d never try to steal me away from you.” Chloe said with a sigh, having had this conversation before.
“Oh, really. ‘Cause it looked like that was what he was trying to do.”
Chloe laughed, “You’re kidding, right? He was asking for advice, Oliver.”
“Oh and he has to ask while his hand is on you.”
“Well, of course he does. There was a guy who was staring at me funny,” Chloe replied, “I don’t know where you rich people find these guys but some of them can be really creepy. Like Lex for example.”
“They’re usually born into this society,” Oliver said with a laugh while wrapping his arms around her waist, “And you do realise that when you married me you became one of those rich people?”
“Of course not. There is no way that I’m one of you,” Chloe protested.
“Yes you are, by Californian law. Whatever I have, half off it is yours.”
“Well I don’t believe you.”
Opening his mouth to respond Oliver paused when he realised what had just happened. “Hang on a second,” he said, “You’re trying to distract me.”
Chloe shrugged, “It was this or taking off my clothes and since you didn’t close the door than your just going to have to live with this.”
“What did he need advice on?”
“Getting a girl,” Chloe replied with a giggle.
Joining her in her laughter he couldn’t believe that Bruce needed help with women, “This has to be some special woman for him to ask for help.”
“Oh she is.” Chloe said with a smile, “Of course I got something out of the deal.”
“Of course you did. How many favours do you need from Bruce before you have too many?”
Chloe smiled, pausing, before saying, “Well I didn’t get a favour. I got some advice of my own.”
Raising an eyebrow at Chloe he asked, “What did you need advice on?”
“How to tell you something,” she whispered.
Rubbing a hand down her arm he said, “Chloe we’ve been married for two years now, together for five, how is it you need advice to tell me anything. You should know that you can just say it.”
Chloe nodded, while grabbing one of his hands, “I know but this is huge. Life changing huge and I needed someone to practise one, I guess.”
“Ok,” he said, squeezing her hand, “How about you tell me now? ‘Cause unless it’s that you’re dying I think I can deal with anything.”
“Well,” Chloe replied, taking a deep breath, “Maybe you should take a seat.”
“I’m fine standing.”
“Then I guess I should just say it,” Chloe said, “I’m pregnant.”
Taking the nearest seat he sat with a plop. He knew that he and Chloe would have children one day but he had always assumed it would be more planned than this. This was sudden and unplanned and everything he wasn’t. He needed structure, planning and schedules and this baby was already showing that it was the exact opposite of that. Sure he was better at letting go of things than Chloe but when she wasn’t around he was just like her. This baby already seemed to be out of sync with them and how could that be a good thing.
Looking up at Chloe he noticed the worried look on her face. Standing he hugged her. “I’m happy,” he said, “I’m very happy but a little confused.”
Chloe nodded onto his shoulder before saying, “What’s confusing you?”
“Well we’re using birth control to start off with, we’re not prepared for this nor did we plan it, and how do we fit a baby into our lives. We’re superheroes for crying out loud.” Oliver replied, waving his hands around.
“Oliver, do you want kids?”
“That’s a silly question, of course I want kids.”
Chloe smiled, “Then we’ll deal with this. I know it’s not planned but we have seven and a half months to make sure we are ready. But if you need me to explain birth control to you, then I don’t think that we should continue having sex.”
Laughing Oliver replied, “Of course I understand birth control but the statistics have to be minuscule.”
“Of course they are Oliver, but this is us. Everyone thought the chances of us working out would be minuscule but we’ve proved them wrong. This kid just proves it.”
Smiling he kissed Chloe quickly before wrapping an arm around her waist and directing her towards the door. Moving back to the ballroom he was happy that she didn’t try and make any conversation with him. While he was happy he still needed to deal. Even as he was thinking though his hand was rubbing small circles on her belly and his mind couldn’t help but think of all the shades of green there were to choose from for the nursery.
Opening the ballroom door again he smiled in shock when he saw Bruce talking to Dinah. Turning to Chloe slightly he whispered in her ear, “Is that who he wanted help with?”
Giving him a secret smile she said, “I’m not telling, but you may be warm.”
Kissing her again he smiled against her lips but before he could move to deepen it there was a throat clearing in front of them. Pulling apart he laughed when he saw Lois, rocking on her heels, with her hands clasped behind her back.
“What can we do for you Lois?” Chloe asked, placing her head back onto Oliver’s shoulder.
“I just wanted you to hear the news first,” Lois responded with a secret smile.
“What would that be?” Oliver questioned, his hand moving to play with Chloe’s hair.
“Just this,” Lois said, pulling her hand from behind her back and flashing them with the new ring on her hand.
Gasping Chloe grabbed the hand and took a closer look at the ring. It was simple in design, only one diamond inlaid in a silver band but it was perfect for Lois. She didn’t need anything bulky, like other girls. Clark had chosen the right ring.
“It’s beautiful Lois. I can’t believe Clark finally asked.” Chloe gushed, happy for her best friend and cousin.
“I know,” Lois replied, a silly grin on her face, “It’s about time too. Five years together and now I’m getting a proposal. Finally!”
Laughing as Lois left Oliver smiled, happy for them. No other couple had been through as much as Clark and Lois. They deserved to be happy with each other after everything that had happened with Superman. Lois had taken his alien heritage well considering the agony Clark had put himself in. However Clark had also decided it was time to step into the spotlight as Superman after Lois was told and that added to the stress that was felt. Chloe spent a lot of time flying between Metropolis and Star City to comfort Lois, who wasn’t taking it as well as she would have, not that anyone blamed her. Clark flew off on a regular basis to save people and it was a lot for Lois to adjust to. There was a small amount of time where the League had thought that they were going to split but luckily that hadn’t happened.
“Oh my god!!” Chloe cried pulling back from Oliver.
Panicked Oliver asked, “What?”
“Lois is going to kill me,” Chloe said, “She’s not going to be the first person to find out about the baby.”
“Oh my god,” Oliver sighed, just as Bart, AC and Victor joined them.
“You’re pregnant,” the boys yelled.
Hiding her head in Oliver’s shoulder Chloe sighed, “I’m so dead.”
The end.
