A/N: Firstly this is my first Glee fic and its AU so feel free to say something if you don’t think they’re written right. I love constructive criticism. Secondly it’s not beta’d, though I am looking for a beta if anyone can point me anywhere. Also I’m Australian so I have no idea how talk shows work in America, I just went with what I thought felt right. Feel free to let me know if I got something wrong.
Other than that enjoy and please feel free to comment.
Sometimes it felt weird, having his own talk show, but it had brought so much to his life. It had been the oddest experience though. He had gone to audition for a nationwide ad and the next thing Kurt knew he was the weather man for the local channel in Chicago. It had all spiralled after that. People had seemed to respond to his charisma that he had began to fill in for the male anchor when he was away. It was fun. Kurt enjoyed being in front of the cameras, bringing people news, and sure it was far from what he had expected his life to be when he was in high school, but this was better. This was real.
His third year into his job he had been approached by the producers. They had the idea for a morning show to follow immediately after the morning news and they wanted him to be one of the hosts. Kurt had been over the moon. He had never realised how incredible it would feel to be wanted. Needed. Of course he had a co-host in the earlier days but when Rachel Berry had been offered a job on Broadway she couldn’t refuse it. There had been discussion of employing another co-host but in the end the producers had decided that Kurt could carry the show by himself.
He couldn’t help but feel honoured.
It was an amazing step forward. It was the way to becoming a bit like Oprah. Though he did have to admit that he dressed better than her and he didn’t need a stylist to do it. He had never realised that he had wanted his own show until it was given to him. Sure he enjoyed doing the talk show with Rachel but he had never thought that they would give him the show when she left.
The show had done so much for him too. It had given him back some of the confidence he had lost without even realising it. High school had been hard and being the only gay guy out of the closet had lead to a lot of bullying. He hadn’t realised it in his youth but he had lost a part of himself in those hallways but it had come back, stronger than ever. The other important thing the show had done for him was introduce him to his fiancé. When Blaine Anderson, singer and songwriter extraordinaire, had come on the show Kurt had thought nothing of it. Sure he liked the singer’s songs but it wasn’t like he was going to go fan crazy for the boy.
And then they had met.
They shared coffee before the show had begun, standing whispering, trying not to disturb the news show that was still taping in front of them. When Blaine had called him cute he couldn’t help but blush, he didn’t hear that much. The interview had been fun. Blaine had proved what a fun and interesting guy he could be. Watching him perform was the highlight of the day though. He sung an upbeat pop song but he got into, made it his own, and it showed, no matter how top 40 it was. The emotion of his song shone through his eyes. So when he was getting his makeup removed later he couldn’t resist when the boy had asked for his number, wanting to take him out on a date.
They had been going strong ever since.
And today was the day. They were going to tell the world they were engaged on his show. Blaine was his special guest today and when his partner had suggested that they share the news during the interview Kurt couldn’t help but agree. After all the people who watched the show knew they were dating, neither of them made a move too really hide the fact, it was still a little nerve wracking. After this everyone would know that Blaine was his, forever. There was no way that his fan girls would like that, they had a hard enough time accepting that he was gay as it was. Still they had sworn to each other that they wouldn’t hide their relationship. This was just the next step forward.
Glancing into the mirror to check his make up one last time Kurt stood, taking his microphone and pinning it to his blazer before taking his seat in the chair that he swore he would buy from the studio if he ever decided to leave the show. It was far too comfortable not to come with him and it would match his sofa perfectly. Watching the camera crew go through their motions he smiled when the camera man started to count down for the start of the show.
He began as normal, listing the people who were going to one the show and what they were going to see, before moving into his first interview. During the second infomercial break Blaine snuck onto the set, greeting him quickly with a kiss before running off, the makeup lady yelling at him as she came to fix Kurt’s make up.
An hour and a half into the show it was finally time for Blaine to join him on stage. Introducing him swiftly he watched as Blaine played the first song in his set before coming to join him on the chairs. Smiling Kurt asked Blaine questions that fans had emailed, twittered or texted in, things that they were obviously dying to know about his up and coming album and tour, before asking the last question.
“We have one last question,” Kurt said, looking briefly at the monitor before turning back to Blaine, “From a Shannon, aged 42, in Ohio. She’s wondering something about our personal lives.”
Blaine chuckled, “Anyone who is just tuning in and doesn’t know, Kurt and I have been dating for two and a half years now.”
“It’s not like it’s a secret,” Kurt said with a shrug, “But what Shannon would like to know is: now that gay marriage is legalised in Ohio, where we both come from, are there any plans to tie the knot?”
“Well it’s funny you should ask that question Shannon cause we were planning on telling everyone today,” Blaine said, giving his charming smile to the camera, “I proposed two weeks ago and Kurt, the loving and sweet man that he is, happily agreed to marry me.”
Kurt smiled at Blaine before continuing, “However we don’t intend to get married until Blaine is finished with his most recent tour.”
“We’re thinking April or May next year, defiantly a spring wedding.”
Taking Blaine’s hand in his Kurt read off the prompter, wrapping up the show for another morning before walking hand in hand with Blaine to the makeup room. Blaine had to do a quick removal before running off to his next interview but Kurt took his time, wondering what the world would have to say about this.
Later the same day Kurt stood in the kitchen of the apartment that he and Blaine had been sharing for the last two years, cooking dinner, pondering the outcome of what they had just done. Smiling as Blaine entered their apartment Kurt was surprised when the other boy walked over and wrapped his arms around his waist, nuzzling into his neck before whispering against his skin, “I got asked at every interview if it was true and every time I said yes made me feel amazing.”
“Well we are getting married. We’re allowed to be happy,” Kurt whispered, lifting his left hand and running it back through Blaine’s hair.
“I know and I’m so glad that it does. What did I do to get a soul mate like you?”
“Obviously some very good deed,” Kurt whispered in jest. “Otherwise I could have been wasted on another.”
“Well I for one and very glad that you were. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
Kurt smiled. He had waited a long time for someone to love him for himself. He wasn’t about to let Blaine leave, “I don’t know what I’d do without you either.”
The end.
