I've been seeing this crawling weed all over our back yard this year. I haven't been too concerned because they weren't thorny and they at least made the back yard look a little green. Yesterday I saw past the subterfuge and realized what they really are; Goatheads

Yipes! I had to look it up, this sounds nasty!

My favorite weapon against any weed: A Korean weeder (also called a Korean cultivator). Sharpen the edge a bit and they get underneath ANYTHING to cut it off and DIE DIE DIE.

Fire doesn't always get the whole root of a goathead, plus there's risk involved to the near-by veggies :(

Now if the plant matures and you have the actual burrs in the yard on the other hand, Fire is the ONLY answer.

I know you and mornings aren't fast friends. I've found a handy ally in my own weed-eradication efforts: Citronella tiki-torches. Just enough light to weed by in the dark, and mosquito-control built-in. They may be worth a try.
