My backslash key (which also provides the | character, known as a pipe, my uninformed friends) hasn't been attached to the keyboard since I smashed my petulant fists against it during a long dark Austrian night (as chronicled in these very annals). To use those characters, I now have to depress the contact directly, which is pretty inconvenient. ( Read more... )

Most of my age-peers have come to the realisation that their adolescent dreams are nothing more than that, and that the road to the grave is paved with compromise and resignation. They seem to have been strong enough to handle this.

I hope you don't mean me. I'm still working on the assumption that Stupid Sounds'll be number one at Christmas.

You could just buy yourself a new keyboard for literally two pounds seventy-eight pee.

Failing that? Remove the forward slash from the number pad which nobody uses, and fit that over the missing pipe key. Who needs TWO forward slashes? Not anybody!

Unfortunately, this is a laptop and has no numeric keypad. Besides, I still have the key, I just can't affix it to the rubber dome thingy.

I think it's apt that "scunnered" and "scanner" sound similar. Cos malfunctioning scanners often leave me scunnered. Not as much as printers though.
