We're trying to keep Nathan's biting phase to a minimum. I don't feel comfortable teaching him to decapitate his enemies yet.

Disney is indeed preferable. However, If you turn your focus to the kinds of disasters you're most likely to have to cope with (e.g. several days without power in the wake of an ice storm), there are indeed useful preparations you can make. Some of those preparations (e.g. keep some non-perishable food in the house that doesn't require electricity to cook) are actually useful in a broad range of situations and may actually serve to make your life less stressful.

For example, when my kids were small I kept spare clothing in the van at all times. This saved several routine outings--it meant we didn't have to go home just because someone spilled their drink on a cold windy day.
