My thoughts on the election relating to the fandom....

I'm getting really confused at all the election controversy within the furry fandom...people seem shocked and awed at the possibility that there are republican furries out there. Uh, duh? We're people brought together by a COMMON INTEREST, not brought together by an exactly matching set of opinions and beliefs. Personally, I'm a democrat, though I ( Read more... )

AGREED. TOTALLY. <3

I've been getting REAL SICK of all the Republican bashing in the fandom. It's mean. It's mean of people on my side of the political spectrum to be mean to others for their beliefs, too.

I've made it a point not to talk much about politics on the internet, since most of my friends are liberal. I've also requested others to keep their bashing and mean comments to a minimum. So far, most of my friends have been pretty good about it.

hehehe *grins* I'm touched that you mentioned me. <3 I don't fit in very well with my Republican brethren at times either (being bi, not opposed to abortion, etc.)
BUT - even though you and I have different political views, it looks like we have a lot of the same, too. And I can't imagine that... if we were to talk in-depth about politics, we would be anything BUT kind and agreeable in our discussions. :)

I'm a long-time Republican fur who's voting for Obama. I have my reasons and I believe strongly that McCain/Palin would be very bad for the country, the fandom, and especially for me personally.

But I'm not going to force my beliefs down another furs throat. I'm not going to hate those that disagree for it (although if we get into a heated argument I will raise my voice). Political beliefs, I feel, are like personal beliefs. You have a right to have them and not have someone rip you a new one for them. But if you want to argue your position and allow me to argue mine, I'm all for that.

There is a lot of stress going on because this is most probably a pivotal election. One of the few that actually matters to a great deal and which will have a profound effect on the next 4 years either way it goes.

After Tuesday, the emotional battle will finally end and those that loose will have their final fit and then it will be done.

And we can all just be furs again.

"I believe that being gay is a genetic thing."
I'm gay 100% by choice. <3

I read the rest, but I've got nothing to say about it 'cause I don't follow politics. ;p

Yay! A voice of sanity! I totally agree! And having a friend in that whole political morass, I can say that Democrats and Republicans still go out to lunch together and are friends outside "The Ring". But not so the general public, and it seems to me that ALL parties are fostering this sort of rabid fanaticism in their voting base. :-P Thanks for sharing! Your post gives me some hope for this country! :-3
