I watched ‘The Power of Three’ with my brother on Saturday. He’s a bit of a Whovian and I’ve got cable for the first time in two decades, so of course I’m all over Doctor Who. :D
Aaaand we're back to complexity for complexity's sake. Yes, I know he's the Doctor and he travels in time and thus his life is non-linear, but aren't we following his time line? If not, whose ARE we following?
I'm of the opinion that if there's a bit that doesn't add anything to the story, it needs to go. And all this complexity that Moffat seems to feel is essential (but in reality just serves to confuse people unnecessarily) should be cut.
As for the extras--I like them. I like the glimpses we get beyond the episodes, but you're right. They shouldn't be used to address HUGE ISSUES that are vital to the show. :-/
I agree. It makes the most sense to follow his time line, because he's the main character, but I could see following the Pond's time line (like in season 6). I just want us to follow SOMEONE'S timeline, and someone important! If the Ponds are with the Doctor than his time line is also theirs, so really there's just one time line we should be following at the moment. And you're right--I find it hard to get into the show because I'm not sure WHEN we are. :-/ Showing episodes out of order didn't really work for Firefly, what makes Moffat think it will work for Doctor Who?
The divorce-thing felt extremely forced in Pond Life too. The first few parts were pretty light and then BAMDIVORCEAMYTHROWINGRORYOUTANDCRYING. Pacing seems to be an issue.
I love Rory and Amy and I ship them hardcore, but the pacing of this episode REALLY got to me. And the fact that everyone was pretty superfluous except, of course, the Doctor. And I get that he's an alien genius who is somewhere between 900 and 1200 years old according to him (and depending on whether we're going backwards or forwards in his timeline with this season). But his companions have always brought something to the table and this episode they really didn't.
I like seeing Amy and Rory's life without him. I like that they feel pressured to make a choice. I like that THEY like real life. I just--don't want the episode as a whole to suffer. If Chibnall was going for a creeping, insidious feeling he totally missed it. :(
And if you liked the episode, that's fine. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :D I just didn't.
lol and they saved Brian and Rory but what about the other people on that ship. Did they get off before it blew up? I found the cubes with the utensils in the cafeteria weird. XD
Out of all the episodes in this season though, I liked this the best [read: had the least problems with] because it gave me RTD era feels that I've found lacking in the Moffat era.
I had more problems with Asylum of the Daleks, but this is the episode I like the least simply because I was bored. And I should not be bored when watching Doctor Who!
