ADVENTURE for Smallville Fen (and other interested parties)

Aug 19, 2009 19:00

Last week was an amazing week for comics - I read at least fifteen titles and they were all happy-making. Many of them were excellent. One of the highlights was Adventure Comics and I want to bring it to the attention of Smallville fans especially. The star of Adventure is Conner Kent (aka Kon-El, aka Superboy), our canon-Clex lovechild. *pets ( Read more... )

OMG BRILLIANT! Thank you so much for posting scans. I think I'm in love with it! The colouring is so gorgeous! The refs are total Clex... and it's so Smallvillean!

YAY! I'm glad you're in love with it too. I'm stunned by the beauty and nuance of the coloring. I hope you can read the issue as it's very good.

Yes! It's like a Superman-canon comic just for us!

Seems like his relationship with Clark left much to be desired, though. Hope this book deals more with that.

They just started dealing with this in Blackest Night: Superman #1 that came out yesterday. You see that he and Clark have a much closer relationship then they had before Conner died. They're more like brothers now. It's wonderful!

Conner is definitely fun, but he's also a super in the best sense: he's about hope, seeing the best in those around him, and feeling a bit "other". The "other" sometimes generating hubris and sometimes insecurity. Unlike the other supers, Kon has a lot of bluster, but that part of what makes him so much fun.

His relationship with Clark has left a lot to be desired. I think Clark didn't really know how to react to him when they first met - Superboy (he didn't have any other name then) was a clone designed to replace him following his death. That has to be weird. Also, Kryptonian society has stygmas against clones. Plus, Conner was created by Cadmus, so there's the Luthor connection which also doesn't leave a lot of room for trust, etc.

Clark tried despite all that and he's shown nothing but respect, love and remorse re Conner since he died.

This book has four pages of interaction between him and Clark and there's also a sweet interaction between them in Superman: Blackest Night. It seems Conner is going to feel Clark's affection ( ... )

think they will trade it?
They've been trading practically everything current. Plus, this is Geoff Johns and he sells for them. I'm 99.9% sure they'll trade it.

I so need to get my hands on this
I like to have comics physically in my hands. It's nice to pet them and read them wherever. If you just want to read though, I've linked it for download in the post. Besides torrents, you can also find current comics for download at comicunity and The Longbox.

I had to give up floppies when I chnaged jobs and suddenly had travel expenses :S
Dang those responsibilities! I think I'd have horrific withdrawals if I had to do that.

Okay see, this is why you need to post waaay more often. We talked about this book for what? Forty five minutes at least? And yet look how much more you pulled out of it. I was too busy going KON! OMG KON!! SO PRETTY! KON!! that I completely missed um, everything else apparently. That stuff with the shadows and coloring is amazing and Valentine?! *Valentine*. HOW DID I MISS THAT. And the bridge!!! God, Geoff ♥

I didn't think I could love this book more but you're amazing and make me feel dumb. In that good way. I drool at the thought of you doing more like this on other comics. Like you know, COUGH JSA COUGH.

*adores your brain forever*

ps I CAN'T WAIT TO TALK ABOUT THE SUPERMAN ANNUAL WITH YOU.

Eep! Maybe we should just read them together like we did with RIP, then we'll be sure to capture all the little nuances.

How are we going to fit in the Annual and Secret Files (URSA! OMFG!) with all the awesome stuff coming out tomorrow?!?!?!?!!

I need a Mon-El icon.
Me too! Because he is amazing and wonderful and all things SUPER. ♥ You're going to icon the dancing, right?
