Hurley opens his eyes. Slowly, because it hurts. He has a fever. He can't hold on for much longer. It's okay. He's lived a long life, done a lot of good, helped and protected a lot of people. He did his job, what he was supposed to do, what he promised Jack he would.

Ben comes to visit him. He isn't in such great shape either, but he isn't sick like Hurley is. He'll live a bit longer. Hurley wonders if he'll be happy now that the island will finally be his, but then again, he's been fairly happy - well, happy for Ben - for a while now.

"How are you feeling?" Ben asks.

"I saw her," Hurley tells him, because Ben won't think he's crazy.

"Who?"

A smile crosses Hurley's face. Not the melancholy one that usually crosses his face when he thinks of her. Because he isn't remembering her. He saw her. "Libby," he replies. "I saw her." He looks Ben in the eyes. "And she was real."

Ben looks at him quizzically. Not because he doesn't believe him, Hurley knows, but because he doesn't quite understand what he means. "She was real?" he repeats, questioningly. Hurley smiles and closes his eyes. "Hugo, stay with me."

"Relax, dude," Hurley coughs. He grew out of calling people that with age, but now that he's so close to the end, now that he feels connected to her, connected to the man he was when he was with her, it feels right again. He keeps his eyes closed, though, playing over the sight of her, of them, in his mind like it's a movie, rewinding it and watching it again. After a few moments he describes it to Ben.

"We were gonna go on a date, at the beach," he rasps. "Before Michael...before she died." Even now, thinking of that part hurts. "But this time, we were there, on a different beach, having the picnic. And when she kissed me...I woke up and I knew." He opens his eyes and looks at Ben. "It was real. And she was real."

Ben is quiet for a few minutes, and Hurley lays against the pillow. He's tired, so tired. "Hugo," Ben says. Hurley turns back to him. "I think she's waiting for you." Hurley nods. He thinks so too. "I think it's time. I think it's time for you to let go."

He nods and smiles. "Yeah," he breathes out quietly. "Me too."

"You did a lot of good here," Ben tells him. "I'll try to live up to your legacy with whatever time I have left. Though, I have a feeling I'll always come up short."

Hurley shakes his head. "You did a lot of good too, Ben." Ben smiles and looks down at the floor. "I guess I'll see you on the other side, dude."

"I doubt it," Ben answers. "But I hope so."

His breathing slows down and he doesn't even have to close his eyes to see her now. Her face, her smile. He smiles back. I think she's waiting for you. "I'm gonna close my eyes now," he whispers.

Ben nods, blinking rapidly and attempting to covertly wipe his cheeks. "Goodnight, Hugo," he says.

Hurley closes his eyes, for the last time.

He opens them again, and he's with her, on the beach, and she's smiling.
