I have some good things to post, but that's not going to happen quite yet.
1. Community hackage: both contrelamontre and orlandoslash have been hacked, in the manner of the Shoebox Project hackage. LJ Abuse has been contacted, as have the real mods of contrelamontre. (If you know the mod of orlandoslash, please let them know, although I doubt anyone reading this is in that comm other than angiepen; ETA: and actually, I am now suspecting that the mod was zarah5, who was a mod of the other comm and apparently the gateway the hacker used.) If you are watching a community and see a post from an unknown "moderator" saying that the community is being closed and to please check [some link] for more information, do not click! There have been reports of viruses and keyloggers being installed from these links.
As far as I can gather: if you ever used a hotmail account to open/validate an lj account, do not delete it (the hotmail address)! If you do, a hacker can request that now-unused username and with it gain access to your lj account. ETA: see this post by penknife for ways to manage your email vs lj accts.
2. bethbethbeth and painless_j have discovered that someone (who is on lj, tehopheliac) has archived scads of stories (mostly in HP and SGA) and fanart without permission on her website http://www.amortentia.net/. I am clearly not a good enough writer to have been pirated, but many of you, apparently, are. :-) See Beth's post about it here. ETA: The site has been locked and she promises to take the stuff down. That's one small victory for the forces of goodness and righteousness and fluffy bunnies!
3. LJ is still not delivering comment notifications. Boo.
ETA: 4. B's VPN is acting up and every time he tries to transfer files to the server of the company he's doing work for, it crashes our network. By which I mean, crashes MY network. Which doesn't have any effect on you guys, but contributes to my general feeling of grrr.
