“Jensen what are we going to do with him? I mean we can’t just keep him in the bathtub!”
“Relax Jay, we’ll figure it out… we have the pool after all.”
“Yeah? And ain’t you the one that said salt water fish die in fresh water?”
Jensen blinked and smirked, “Well, look who’s been doing his reading.”
Jared rolled his eyes, “You’ve been leaving those damn books sprawled everywhere for the last three years…”
Jensen was smiling as he stepped up to the tank with the merman in it. “I don’t know if you understand me but we’re not going to hurt you,” a hand resting on the tank made the other smile softly back. “I wonder what your name is…” The dark tail flicked, lifting the other off the bottom to float upward until he was looking down at the astonished man. “Wow,” the dark tail kept shifting colors, one second nearly translucent silver the next bright red, then green, blue, never quite staying one shade. “I wonder what he’s doing.”
Jared smirked as the merman lifted his chest a little higher, previously unseen fins and spines lifting and spreading down his back and tail. “Doesn’t take an expert… he’s showing off.”
“Oh,” Jensen looked away, unable to hide the soft blush. “Uh… that’s nice,” when he looked back up he saw the tiger fish like display as the merman smiled brightly at him “I wish I knew what to call you.”
Blue eyes blinked at him, giving Jensen a moment to wonder if he could read minds when an odd combination of notes sounded from the other. “Uh, a little softer please?” Jensen rubbed at his ringing ears until the buzz faded. The short tune sounded again, this time much softer. “Me… Misha?”
Misha’s voice called loud and high as the green eyed female said his name. “Misha,” he tried to repeat, though drawn out more than the other world.
“Well Misha, I’m Jensen.”
“Jeeeenseeeen,” Misha sang, smiling as he flicked his tail, closing his fins as he turned a tight circle only to open his display again.
“Yeah, Jensen. Would you like to come home with us?”
Misha pressed his cheek against the glass, frowning and letting out a sad sound. “Don’t worry, we won’t keep you in a dinky tank.” Jensen was smiling at him, making him want to go to him. “I’ll take that as a yes.” Jensen reached his hand out to press it against the glass. “I have to go take care of some things before I can take you with us, but I’ll be back okay?”
Misha’s smile faded when Jensen pulled away from the barrier and started walking away. Fins falling closed he let out a higher pitched cry. “Jeeeeeeenseeeeeen!” No leave me! Please, no leave. Misha sank to the bottom of his clear prison, his tail going dark as he wrapped it around himself. Don’t leave, please.
Jensen cringed at the obviously scared noises coming from Misha. “Can you take care of the pool for me? It needs drained and refilled with proper saline levels…”
“I got it. You stay put, before he has a panic attack and rips off all his fins.”
“Thanks Jay.”
Misha’s head peaked out from behind his tail, watching the male leave. Jensen was sitting down in front of him. You’re staying? Misha smiled at the nod of understanding before he swam up to the barrier to start happily singing to his companion.
