starletfallen. As if that wasn't clear by now.
Master> *SO THEN. Probably about a month later. Decides she's Ready To Start Learning. So prepares a space in his free room -- much like the one he originally yanked her blocks open in. No distractions, whatever*
Master> *calls out from the doorway* Donna! Come in here.
Donna> *rolls her eyes and doesn't move from where she's flipping through a magazine on the couch* Why should I?
Master> *sighs impatiently* Because I said so.
Donna> Oh, well, that's just SO convincing.
Master> *annoyed* It's important. Please? See, I even asked nicely.
Donna> What's so important you can't say "Donna? Could you come in here, I'd like to blah blah blah"?
Master> *takes a moment to contemplate if it's too late to kill her. Decides it probably is.* *so sweet it'll give you cavities* Donna, could you come in here so we can get started on your lessons?
Donna> *rolls eyes again, but gets up and wanders over* *sweetly* There, was that so hard?
Master> *with a smile* Yes. Now come on. *stepping back so she can actually, y'know, get into the room*
Donna> *steps in* You're a bit creepy sometimes, you know that?
Master> It's part of my charm. *closes the door and gestures for her to sit in one of two chairs in the room. Not very comfortable chairs, either.*
Donna> *wrinkles her nose* Lovely. Feel like I'm back at school. *sits*
Master> For all intents and purposes, you are. *takes the other chair*
Donna> Yeah. *crosses her arms* So, what are we learning today?
Master> I'm going to give you back a piece of what I'm holding down. Just a small one.
Donna> *looks a bit nervous* And then what?
Master> Well, it depends on how that goes. Are you ready?
Donna> *deep breath* Yeah. Ready.
Master> *and very slowly lets go of the hold of a very small portion of everything. Basically it's the equivilant of, say... one speck of dust as opposed to a city. Except the city is the universe.*
Donna> *okay, well, while... a bit overwhelming, that's not going to drive her mad or anything. It's just a little awareness of time. Makes it feel almost like a breeze, feeling it move. It makes her head spin a bit*
Master> *oh, that's good! At least, he thinks it's good. This is not like it goes on Gallifrey, so they're both a little blindhere -- not that he'd admit it* *softly, more in her head than out loud, even* Is that alright?
Donna> I... I think so. *slowly* It's like... when I was a kid, my best friend got glasses. She kept getting distracted at first 'cause everything was so sharply defined and she wasn't used to it.
Master> *nods* It shouldn't be long before it starts to feel natural.
Donna> And then I get more, right?
Master> *curious* Do you want more?
Donna> *frowns, then nods* A little. Just to see...
Master> See what?
Donna> If I can do it. What it's like. *shakes her head a little, absently* I don't know.
Master> I don't want to overload you. You shouldn't even have this awareness yet. But yes. When this becomes a part of you, you can have more.
Donna> *tilts her head questioningly* What do you mean I shouldn't have it yet?
Master> *pause* The youngest this should develop is at age forty. For you, that would be forty years from when you stopped being human. But because of the circumstances it happened under -- and most likely because of him -- it was all right there, as soon as you changed.
Donna> *softly* I have his mind. All his memories...
Master> Yes. You shouldn't. But you do.
Donna> *sighs a bit and rubs her temples* Bloody hell.
Master> *sympathetic* It's a headache, isn't it?
Donna> *mutter* Both literally and metaphorically.
Master> Perhaps we should save the psychic training for tomorrow. Slow is probably the best way to go about things.
Donna> Oy, I'm not some little kid or whimpering bimbo! I can handle it just fine. *grrr, is tough Donna*
Master> I didn't say you couldn't, pet. But this is uncharted territory. We wouldn't want to misstep and ruin things in that pretty little head of yours. Still, if you want to continue today, we can.
Donna> *narrows her eyes a bit at being called 'pet', but doesn't say anything* I'm fine. Let's do it.
Master> Alright then. *businesslike, suddenly* We'll start with blocks. It's easier to construct things in your own mind than to project. Take a few deep breaths. Clear your mind as best you can. Focus. It will be difficult with what we just did, but you can manage it.
Donna> *nods and closes her eyes, breathing deeply and trying to keep focused despite the little things tugging at her attention*
Master> *waits until he feels she's focusing enough before speaking again* I'm going into your mind now, Donna. I want you to try to put up a wall, to keep me on the surface. Alright? However you can manage it. Don't worry if you can't keep me out. I just want to know what you can do before training. Try to block me out, Donna. *and into her mind he goes, slowly, and without much force behind it, so it would be easier for her to block than if he was actively trying to get through it*
Donna> *and... basically she manages the psychic equivalent of a wall of gold light. It doesn't last for long, and it's not exceptionally strong, but it's there*
Master> *pulling back with a smile* Good! That's great for a first attempt.
Donna> *deep breath, opens her eyes* That's tiring. It gets easier, I hope.
Master> It does. You'll see. You're progressing already. Do you want to try once more, or have you had enough for the day?
Donna> One more time.
Master> *grins, as though she got the right answer on a test -- which is kind of true, almost* Try to visualize it this time. Shape it into something else if you can. Control, that's the key.
Donna> *closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, pictures her mind with a closed door. Locked. No one can get in unless she lets them. It's... well, it won't hold up to any real pressure, but it's a start. It helps that she's got some of the Doctor's mind still*
Master> *and it crumples when pressure applied, sure, but he still beams like a proud parent when he leaves her mind* This is an excellent start, Donna.
Donna> *is breathing a little hard, but manages a smile* Thanks.
Master> How do you feel? *stands up and pulls a cup of tea out of a cabinet, bringing it to her*
Donna> *sips the tea gratefully* Tired. But really wired, too, like I've had a few too many cups of coffee or something.
Master> *rests a hand on her shoulder* You'll want to lie down and rest for a few hours. If not now, then when the energy wears off.
Donna> Yeah. *falls silent for a while, and finishes the tea off* It's making them louder. The energy, or... something.
Master> *frowns* Hmm. We'll try to work on that next time.
