Tonks stood next to Kingsley biting her lip. He kept giving her strange looks. She’d avoided any conversation with him the entire time Ginny and Ben had been working on the Course; it frustrated him because she wasn’t keeping his mind off Ginny. Not that she knew of his recent attraction to the younger woman, but her bubbly personality and humor always helped to distract him.

He gave her a sideways glance and she had her arms crossed tightly under her chest and her expression seemed far away; she was even leaning away from him, which was disconcerting. Not since the incident her first year of training had they not been able to talk to each other, to converse. He considered her a great friend, and her preoccupation was worrying; he only hoped everything was fine with her and Remus.

However, all worrying was put on hold when the end chime went off and the two trainees ran towards their mentors. All Kingsley registered was the way Ginny moved and her wide smile. As she stopped in front of them her huge grin exploded as she took heaving breaths. Kingsley did all he could from staring at her neck and breasts, although the sweat slowly trailing down that enticing neck made his efforts extremely difficult. Ginny seemed to also draw Tonks’ attention. Tonks gave a glance at Kingsley but when she found his gaze in her direction she turned away, blushing.

Kingsley, however, saw none of Tonks’ embarrassment, his gaze was so fixated on Ginny; he didn’t even notice Ben come up to him until he placed a hand on his shoulder. He swiveled around to take in the young man. He was smiling and Kingsley could tell he was hoping for input on how he’d done. Glad for the distraction he turned all his attention to his own trainee.

The two girls quickly moved away from the boys and Ginny again picked up that Tonks was distant. As she gave her her critique she felt that Tonks wasn’t all there, finally she stepped closer to her mentor. With a low voice she asked; “are you sure you’re alright?”

Tonks started, she was surprised at how unfocused she really was; shaking it off she gave a wide smile and looked Ginny in the eyes. “Yeah, I’m fine, just a bit preoccupied.”

Ginny gave her a long look before slowly nodding at her. “As long as everything’s okay.”

“It is, really.” Tonks nodded, a smile on her face, but her eyes were still telling Ginny different. However, she pushed it aside as she saw Kingsley pat Ben on the shoulder and head over to them. Ginny caught Tonks, in the corner of her eye, move back slightly as he came up to them-and she also caught a quick glance of confusion in Kingsley’s eyes as she did. He seemed to completely ignore her and reached out to Tonks. As his hand went out to her she shuddered back causing an almost hurt expression to flash from his face.

This time Tonks caught it and immediately felt guilty. They had worked through their problems, times had changed…they had changed. Tonks turned to Kingsley and gave him a bright smile. “We should go out, the three of us.” She suddenly blurted out, though she meant it completely.

Ginny burst out with a happy laugh. “I completely agree! There’s a lovely muggle restaurant and bar right outside the Alley.” Quickly she stopped for a moment and bit the tip of her thumbnail, “but it’s a bit high-class, if that’s alright.”

Tonks nodded, Kingsley seemed unsure of himself and the girls both looked at him. “Oh, you can’t tell me you don’t own a nice suit King. All those months as the Prime Minister’s secretary…” Tonks teased.

He shook his head, “no, sorry. It sounds wonderful. You should invite Remus, Tonks.” He turned his gaze to her smiling slightly; he was very uncomfortable with the idea of going out with them if Ginny were to get all dolled up, yet he couldn’t come up with a good excuse to get out of it. Any attempts, however, to come up with an excuse disappeared as he heard Ginny speak up.

“Oh do, Tonks, do. I haven’t seen Professor Lupin in ages!” Tonks laughed aloud.

“Ginny he hasn’t been your professor in years…you can stop calling him that.”

The redhead gave an almost embarrassed smile. “Sorry, I just can’t seem to break it. And anyway, I think he secretly enjoys it.” She said, winking.

“Oh…he does.” Tonks voice was kind of low, almost secretive, as she responded.

The two women paused for a moment before exploding in giggles. Kingsley just stared at them both finding them completely daft.
