Yesterday I delivered the lecture in english for the first time in my life. I made a few silly mistakes, my English was not much fluent, but my students and me understood each other. That was one small step for the
Summer School "Siberian Western: Life, History and Culture", one giant leap for me.

I have found that it is not the language skills that matter, but communication skills. Not being grammatically correct, but being able to deliver the message.
I spent a lot of time this summer listening to non-native speakers, including those who claimed to have picked language from just being exposed to the necessity to speak it. And they were amazing at it. Surprisingly, they can barely use informal English in writing.
