LJ IDOL WEEK 1 - "EMPTY GESTURES"

I breathed a sigh of relief at the end of this. Coming out is such an intense experience, and all the anger, sadness, fear takes time to cope with.

I'm glad your parents have come around.

This is so very personal, and really well told. I am glad that even though it was slow in coming, your mom was able to reach out to you. Thank you for sharing!

Man. I agree with the sentiment at the end. If one is honest with disappointment and other negative emotions, the genuine gestures mean so much more. Sounds like it was tough to deal with at the time, but kind of worth it in the end. I can't believe your sister told on you though. Reminds me of when my aunt found out I'd lost my virginity, told my dad (who thankfully already knew), and was going to tell my mum. I knew I had to confront my mum and tell her before my aunt had the chance to. It sucked.

I am glad your mother in the end was able to accept who you are. I have respect for gays and lesbians ... it is a choice they can make and not let anyone dictate. We had lesbian couples as neighbours and we respected them and they, I believe, had two kids (they moved so don't know exactly)... They have to deal with a lot of animisoty from the public about their beliefs, but in reality, we have a right to do what we feel is best and not let anyone judge us for the decisions people make, like yourself.

Good on yah, and great twist to the topic, you have my vote.
