Lifting up my oversized backpack, I groaned as I raised it up just high enough to get onto one shoulder. Staring out at the hallway, I took a deep breath and plunged into the sea of students parading through the halls ( Read more... )

This was really well written and captured all of those awkward adolescent moments so well. And I think that you really did good at conveying just how uncomfortable it can be to discover you're attracted to people of your own gender, when it's not socially acceptable.

Thanks! Yeah, I was trying to show how being gay isn't simply just a switch you can turn on and off...and how similar the feelings are to what a guy might go thru with a girl...adolescence is definitely awkward! lol.

Man, sometimes I wish my body could respond to things as easily as it did when I was a teenager, but usually I'm glad it doesn't.

Nice work capturing an awkward moment in life. I know it was a moment personal to you, but the way you wrote it made it feel universal, you know?

hahaha. true true.

Yeah, I was trying to relate a story that could really happen with any normal teenager..but show how similar those feelings and natural reactions of the body are when you are attracted to the same-sex.

Thanks for the comments!

I absolutely loved this. I could really relate to it a LOT ... except luckily, as a girl, there was no need for the hasty book on the lap manouever ;-)

Oh definitely! One of the best kinds of reaction is one that includes a nod of understanding :D

Should I feel bad that I died laughing at the last line? I mean, I'm sure it must have been some sort of awkward teenage nightmare for you, but, I can't help that the way you described it was so damned cute!
