Astronomical Question

Mar 30, 2009 01:41

Can anyone tell me what phase the moon will be in on June 5th, 5030 on the near-side. I need to know if the moon will have sunlight falling in Mare Frigoris or if it will be night-time.

The moon calculator I found online won't go that high.

Thanks in advance for any help.

There's an astronomy community here, on LiveJournal, and they're remarkably nice and helpful. They'll be able to help you, I bet :)

Thanks, Kara:o) I'll check out the astronomy community here if they're into s.f.. The speculations rumor mill 'expert is in topic' was so great because you could get an astrophysics writerly question answered so quickly and in such detail.

Non-writer communities don't usually "get" the questions;o(

In the mean-time I'll see if I can calculate it myself but math is not one of my strong points.

Actually, when I've needed to ask various experts on things, I've found that when you tell them you're a writer working on a story/book, they're delighted to answer your questions. That's how I got information on hot air ballooning and on tightrope walking for Dark Winter.

Thanks, Jen. I was just lurking in lj astronomy and they actually have a few posters who are excellent science writers as well. From some of their previous posts mine would seem a very easy question for them to tackle. Wish me luck.

Good luck!
Definitely approach it as, "I'm writing a story set in..."

Ruth, for some strange reason you're entries haven't been showing up on my friends page. Don't know what's causing that. Just didn't want you to think I've been ignoring you, okay? :(
