what really freaks me out is when something doesn't feel real WHILE it's happening.

I bet you've already seen these photos, but if you haven't, you should google Spencer Tunick.

"somehow I don't imagine grad school vacations as including that burden of finding someplace sunny and exciting to wreak some havoc"

Hah. No. I thought about buying a ticket to New York, and a train ticket to Bard, for my spring break, in fact...but then I remembered that my breaks are really "breaks." They're opportunities to write papers and stop going to class. Which is actually really nice...

Chicago! Chicago is really, really close to here!

Oh, also: I think both of those ideas are great ones. Who doesn't want to turn their super-long project into a musical script? And isn't it true that the book is really, really, really wicked long?

Oh man! Have I not told you about Chicago?? Joel's doing their MA in the humanities (he was initially very grouchy that they didn't take him for PhD, but I think this is pretty awesome) and so I'm going to move there for next year and get some job doing something (the plan becomes a little sketchy after the moving to Chicago bit). Actually, I spent most of this afternoon looking at various jobs at colleges there, since I'm not feeling terribly confident about my skills outside of this sort of workplace.

Really really close, you say? That's fantastic.

I just printed out chapters one and two, and stacked them on top of each other. It looks pretty substantial to me, I think this thing may actually be coming to an end...

Hah, U of C doesn't accept anyone direct-admit to PhD programs anymore - it's all MAPH. It's how they get you. It does look like a great program; if not for the amazing funding at Wash U, I would have done it. :)

Anyway, YES. There is a "superbus" you can take between St Louis and Chicago - if you book far enough ahead of time, it's just $1!!
