So for the last month and a half, I have been desperately trying to print up some of my wedding photos with no luck!! I color balance them on my computer using the latest version of adobe, making sure that my monitor has been calibrated. Then I send them online to be printed at a local store (being that I don't have one of those sweet photo ( Read more... )

Do you know how to switch Photoshop into YMCK color space? The difference between the colors you see on screen and the colors you see on a print page are (roughly) the differences between using normal RGB (monitor colors) and YMCK (printer colors).

It's easy to switch to YMCK mode, but it's trickier to manage a photo digitally like that. Have you tried something like it?

So far I have just managed my photos using a RGB color profile because that is what they recommend. I have not tried CMYK yet, in what way is it more difficult to manage than RGB? Do the color schemes look vastly different using those color combinations ?

It's not so much that it's harder, but certain colors that work fine in RGB don't in YMCK, and vice versa. I know Photoshop handles that somehow -- there are options for "trapping" certain colors, or alerts you can set up when colors in your photo won't come out well when you print them.
I haven't used it very much, as I don't print many photos. You may want to look into it, though, or even just try another printing place and see if you have the same problem.

so I know absolutely nothing about printing out digital photos. But I'm sorry for your troubles. Can you send the digital copy to people to hold them over until you get the kinks worked out?

I could, I just want them to look good!! Also people want a whole album worth of photos, not just one or two. Currently Jake is building me a website so that I can send family to so that they can download pictures. I will post it when he is finished. Nice talking to you today.

On one of my other posts, I noticed that you and cherish found each other. I didn't know that you knew each other!! That's sweet!! :)

We go way back to 9th or 10th grade. French classes, y0.

Really, though, I'd say once you're happy with your colouring, post them on a Yahoo photo site or something so that non-colour-picky people can order them from wherever that site's partnered up, or download them.
It'll save you guys some, they'll pick out what they like, and you won't have to worry about sorting them out. Probably doesn't work for relatives though :)

Besides that, I've had good luck using Shutterfly for an online digital photo printing service. You might want to send a 4x6 for test though.

Thanx for the advice, I was starting to think about sending my pictures away to get printed, I had heard of snap fish, but not of shutter fly. I will check them out and see what their story is.

That's so cool that you are buddy's with lisa, she was my roommate up at state last year, she was super sweet!! and a rockin' roommate!! She also knows my bro Michael, they were also in french together, so I assume that is how you know Michael.
