I'm on a Mac and my icons have a different coloring from Safari to Firefox, so I'm curious from the images below, which is the closest to the coloring seen on your computer screen.
See, that's what I think too, more defined/contrasted and what not. *sigh* I don't know if there is much I can do, but I don't think I have to change anything, most people see the FF versions and they seem to like them. *shrugs*
I use Firefox and the ones for Firefox ones look better to me mainly because the Safari ones look a bit darker and with an orange tint. I actually have a similar problem in that my computer screen makes everything a lot darker so I have a difficult time adjusting the brightness/colouring because what usually looks fine to me is not what the 'actual' result is.
Do you use Photoshop? If you do, you can fix the issue by going to "View > Proof set up > Moniter RGB" also, To save the icon, use Save for Web & Devices. Preset: PNG - 24 // Check "Interlaced". Like this:
