... I didn't realize before now, until I had to investigate in it, what kind of city Neon is. Tetha has seen its trouble, but...

... There's so much darkness in that city. The criminals who have stronger powers and weapons than the ones on earth. And the police... they don't care at all...

...

And then... there are certain experiences I've had ( Read more... )

I'm afraid there are cases like that no matter where you are. Even in my own world, my team had to deal with the dangers of police corruption, and it cost us one of our own.

But that's why we continue to solve cases, especially the ones the police won't touch. The victims can't always speak for themselves, and they deserve a voice.

I understand that. But still... it's... it's somehow darker than what I've seen elsewhere...

There's an oft-quoted saying that, while a bit cliche, seems to be appropriate here: "It is always darkest just before the dawn." We have our work cut out for us, but that's only more reason why we need to keep at this. Not everyone in Neon is corrupt, and they deserve to have people trying to protect them and bring them much-needed justice.

If only more people followed the Neon Branch's example, then.

Hn. I guess, yeah... even with all that crap with Ravemon and Xellos, Tetha ain't even half that bad.

Still. S'why DATS, the Autobots, the Titans, and other folks are there, right?

I'm fine, Masaru. I won't be able to get past this without facing it.

Besides, I don't want to give Captain Harlaown another reason to dislike me.

You remember back during that virus? When Nanoha... err, "came on" to me?

Neon City reminds me of home. Reminds me of Gotham City. The same exact things. The crime, the police, everything. The darkness has a good grip on it.

...that's why people like me exist. To stop things like that. I blew it allowing that girl to die... but, that only pushes me to keep going.

The man who had the Mantle before me did a good job cleaning up Gotham before he quit... then it went to hell. When I showed up and took over, things started looking up for the city.

I know that I won't be in this city forever... but as long as I am here, I want to be the beacon of hope this city needs. And I want my effects to show for a very long time.

And I think it's time that others stepped up to the plate.

Of course, I'm probably just rambling

... Have you ever wondered, if people like us just force them to work harder? That we accelerate the problem?

I've thought about it before. The old man's heard about it before. I've heard about it on TV and everything...

You want my opinion? I think things would be a whole lot worse without us.

Isn't because of places like that, is why certain groups try to help those that live there?

I don't doubt it.

I suppose.

That's all true, and everything. The place is a mess, but...

At that same time, look at all the other people in it. There are two sides to everything, and so long as there's people willing to beat that darkness down, there's hope, right?

There are good people there, and eventually that will change things. Hell, Junk City's not any better, but I might not have all the strong allies I do now if I hadn't been shown just a bit of kindness there, right?
