Summing it up

At work late yesterday, a group of us were discussing the election, with particular attention to the way both sides have demonized the other (even more than in previous elections, which is saying something).  I remarked "No matter who wins tomorrow, half the country will think we're going straight to hell in a handbasket ( Read more... )

But that could change, with a lot of focused, difficult work by a great many people. Which I firmly believe is much more likely to happen if Obama wins.

We shall see.

For what it's worth, I agree completely. And I'm reasonably sure he'll win, too. I just feel slightly sorry for him, taking charge of the country in its current sad shape.

McCain was right (for the wrong reasons) when he remarked that the fundamentals of our economy are strong. We have lots of natural resources, a relatively educated populace, great technology, and a culture of innovation and energetic competition. If Obama can figure out how to apply those strengths to correct our many weaknesses, we could see some amazing results rather quickly. But I won't pretend to know how to accomplish that.

the two party system is only a symptom of the disease. We have seen religion fall out from beneath us, and people chose to find a savior in politicians and the big popularity party today. I voted, because it's low hanging fruit, but I know that my personal freedom can neither be granted nor revoked by anyone but myself. Those who look to others to guarantee their own have already lost it.

I believe it was Hoffman who remarked that if you could change the system by voting, voting would be illegal.

In the 19th Century the Negative Campaigning was much worse.

Going back to Jefferson and Adams...Adams was saying Jefferson would make Rape Legal.

I'm hoping for a landslide. The mandate of the people.

Which would the Crazy Apoc-Christians the New Counter Culture. The True threat to amerikan freedom.

Imagine how they'll react if both Obama wins and Prop 8 loses ;-)

Yeah, 40,000 of those yahoos showed up at the Stadium not a mile from my place on Saturday, from all over the state, to Pray for the passage of 8.

We've had a quarter century of these hate filled bozos being the Amerikan Buzzkill. Enough.

Enough.

Enough.

This year it's not just the main event. Even with an Obama landslide I will still be upset if Prop. 8 wins. On the other hand, even if Obama loses I will take some consolation if 8 loses. Really, what I need is both of these to come out the way I'd like :-)
