A huge regret of mine, although certainly not one under my control by any means, is that I wasn't around for the Vietnam and Korean wars. It's kind of silly, yes, but I would like to be able to compare this media reliant war in Iraq to those times in the sense that caring used to take place in a completely different way. I think that a lot of it has to do with the fact that our current situation is less isolated. If you've been keeping up with the news, it appears that the Bush administration is trying to establish a framework of casus belli for war with Iran. First is was Afganistan (which everyone seems to have forgotton about) now Iraq, and what next? Iran? You never know what will happen with North Korea, either. I mean, the U.S. has said that if they suspect that a N. Korean ship is carrying nuclear materials or bombs that we will stop and seize the ship. Stopping and seizing a ship is a violation of international law, and would be legally justifiable cause for N. Korea to declare war on the U.S. America's response to this when it was pointed out was basically,"Fuck you. We'll do what we want." Now that the peace talks with N. Korea have dissapated, this is all extremely problematic ( ... )
