The last sitting American president to win the prize was Woodrow Wilson in 1919.

I don't mean to be a downer about this, but if I were Obama, I'd be pretty uncomfortable with winning this prize. You can't compare what he's accomplished (winning a tough and historic campaign and being super charismatic and STARTING some diplomatic efforts which haven't yet had time to bear through) with people who have poured their life's efforts into diplomatic efforts. It's actually kind of embarrassing.

Oops, I meant haven't had time to bear fruit.

Oh, I don't agree at all.

I know there are a lot of nay sayers out there, but I think the committee head addresses those quite well here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8298690.stm

I guess? I probably haven't been following US politics closely enough to see what exactly Obama has actually accomplished in terms of diplomacy and foreign policy, aside from undoing a lot of his predecessor's fuck-ups. It seems to me that Obama has talked a lot about world peace and about peace-building efforts with particular countries (especially in the Middle East), but the bulk of his work this year has been domestic.

That is funny really because Woodrow Wilson was the last American president to embrace fascism.

Yes, that's right. Though I wouldn't exclude GW Bush.

Huh? G Bush was the opposite of that. Do you not know what fascism stand for?

I certainly do and I wouldn't exclude GW.
