a/n: a fic starting from when Koki was arrested last June. Edit : decided to make it oneshot cause my short attention span started again after finishing this lol i aint really good at chap fics
SixTONES' have been having a great time for a while now. With all their continuous work as a group, performing and growing together towards their goal, and getting their hopes and wishes granted one at a time, they are ecstatic but not expecting more considering the things they've gone through for the last years. They've learnt to live by the moment.
Even so, the sudden news that broke out in the morning of a certain day was still as shocking as anything else.
'Tanaka Koki, arrested of suspicion of marijuana possession..' Newspaper and internet headlines, morning news program, it was everywhere.
The news was noisy and spread widely for days, having additional information each day.
Juri went to work as per usual but with an unusual air around him. It was like re-living those times he went under a few years backー the stares, the hushed whispers, the awkward greetingsー it's totally the same.
Walking through the halls of the jimusho was harder than he anticipated. He thought he'd be less than bothered by it considering he's had experienced of this thing, but he thought wrong.
Juri would flash a smile and greeting normally when he sees someone, but when there's no one, the smile instantly fades.
He kept walking until he realized he was already by the practice room's door. He stood there for a good minute, looking through the glass by the door. Juri could hear Jesse's and Shin's loud voices and he knows if he entered they'd have a moment to look at him and it will make things awkward even though he believes the others will try a funny approach to cover it up. Despite knowing this, he opted to get some fresh air for a bit, turning on his heels and walking the opposite direction. He still had time before the practice starts so he found an empty room and went in to escape reality.
Closing the door felt good. It's like in some way shutting out all the thoughts he could hear and all the stares he could feel. It's not that he hates being talked about. What he hated is the fact that people are talking about his brother. Juri loves his brother so much that he couldn't bear knowing that others are judging him. No matter what happens, he'll believe in his brother.
Inside the room, he found a chair and sat on it. With a sigh, he leaned his head back trying to feel at peace. He had it, for a moment, until he heard a voice.
"What are you doing?" Knowing he was alone in the room, Juri was confused for a moment and opened his eyes, surprised at a familiar face looking down on him.
"When did you get here?" he asked the boy in his short cropped messy blonde hair. Taiga raised an eyebrow and stood up straight.
"I think it was when you were sighing like you're drawing your last breath." The older tried to lighten the mood. He knew Juri just wanted to be left alone but he just can't let him. Not after when he saw his expression earlier, like Juri feels he'll burden everyone, like he needs to keep up appearances for everyone. He hated that kind of Juri. He wanted to see Juri's genuine smile and not a forced one but he wouldn't want to force him to feel better too.
He was glad to not be kicked out at least by the younger, so he sat by the table, alternately swinging his legs like he was enjoying killing time in the silent moment he's sharing with Juri. He didn't mind the silence. He just wanted to be there for Juri.
The silence was broken though when Juri started some small talk like asking what time Taiga came, or if he heard about the latest game. At first, Taiga let the small talk drag on. He knew Juri was doing it on purpose, to avoid the awkwardness, but Taiga hated it. He hated this Juri that wanted to run away and hide. He hated that Juri is even doing this fake appearance in front him. He hated the Juri that can't be himself, even if it's just them in the room.
The older didn't plan on being ticked off but it's his personality, he gets that easily. The swinging of his legs stopped as he stared at Juri like he was making him look at him just with his eyes. Effectively, the thing worked and Juri stopped his nonsense babbling and took a little glance at Taiga, meeting the intense stare with a helpless one.
Upon seeing Juri's eyes, Taiga's stare softened and instead he smiled softly.
"You know you don't need to give me small talks. I also don't need those forced smiles. And don't even tell me you weren't doing them cause you totally are. I'm not an idiot and I know you too well to not notice that." Taiga said as a matter of factly not letting Juri butt in even for a second.
"How'd you know I'm here?" Juri gave up on answering back, cause after all, what can he even say back to that?
"I saw you by the practice room. I was gonna call out to you but you looked like you didn't wanna be noticed so I waited until you went inside but you never did. I went out and saw your fading figure into this room and followed you. Did that just sound like I'm a stalker?" Taiga furrowed his brows but he smiled when the other let out a low chuckle. He was glad, that Juri was genuinely amused even for a tiny bit.
"I won't mind if you're my stalker. I like Kyomo after all." Juri let this statement flow like the usual smooth talker he is. He wasn't flirting at all but it did sound like that, after all, he was known to be a huge flirt, and Taiga knew that but he still couldn't stop the pool of blood to tint his cheeks for a little.
"Oh now back to flirting?" Taiga went along. He thinks it's better than Juri's fake appearances. He's not expecting the younger to let all his thoughts out on him.
Juri flashed a grin at that making the older grin as well as he hopped off the table and stood before Juri, leaning down and holding his cheeks.
"That's more like it! That's the smile i like. This is the Juri i like." He smiled and he genuinely meant what he said even though he kind of thought it was like a confession. Taiga stared at Juri boring the image in his memory even though he already had a lot of Juri's expressions stored on his head. Noticing the distance of their faces, he could feel his face hot and blush, but he also noticed the sudden softness around Juri's eyes and he knew it was a grateful look.
"Thank you. I guess I needed that. It was tiring, but i decided it on my own, to not cause problems. But I'm glad that at least I have another way to get by this other than 'trying' to be Juri." The younger pinched Taiga's cheeks playfully, the older pulling away with a playful pout and rubbing his cheek.
"What other way?" Taiga asked confused a little but Juri just chuckled at him as he stood up and grabbed his bag.
"We'll be scolded if we're late you know. Let's go."
Juri smiled, a genuine smile, and Taiga's heart swells at this guy in front of him, smiling brightly intended for him. And his resolve to be beside Juri until he's okayー no, until he can call that place his, just got stronger.
a/n: sooo it's been a loooong time since I wrote my last fic and most of them i drop after one or two chapters. Good news though! I'm kind of in the mood for this so i'll probably update chapters more frequently (i have time now! XD ) and i wish to finish it to the end! /crossedfingers lol I'm not a good writer. I do this for fun and to serve my KyomoJuri fantasies as there's a huge lack of fanfictions of my favorite pair, so im sorry if it's boring or whatever, dont bash cause i really dont care about bad opinions lol i'd appreciate constructive criticisms and appreciative comments though haha!
Thanks for reading! Hope you like it! If not, dont say anything! ww
