Don't blunt yourself. Because if you do find somebody that way, then even if that person makes you happy you will always be bitter about the fact that it isn't the real you that she loves.

The talk of stifling myself is largely rhetorical. In general, while I may not always like who I am, I am at least comfortable with and fairly confident about it. This was largely a purging of frustration.
You're right on the note that there's not really any advice that can help me, which is the most frustrating thing of all. I -hate- not being able to somehow effect change for the better through my own talents/will.

I made a very interesting discovery last night (yes, I'm a dork, it was D&D related) about how I identify very closely with people who find themselves not in control so they try to control little things in their environment to give them the illusion of control.
Basically all that to say that I completely understand the frustration of not being able to change a negative situation. "You'd think I should be able to have a say in how my life is turning out!" Yeah, it's a pain.
