I got a new purse today because it is shameful to make public (where any type of professionalism is required) appearances with my old one.

Old Aldo bag (non leather). Note the details of fraying and ripped front pocket.

I admire your old purse (though your new one is nice too). But the old one is very is symbolic of a mentality of non-consumerism....very Thoreau-like. Long live the old purse!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hahahaha... yes perhaps on a symbolic, theoretical, idealistic level it could be impressive and meaningful, but in the mundane world of first impressions it wasn't cutting it anymore. I held out for long before taking the buying step though, so maybe I remained somewhat true to those non-consumerist philosophies... (mostly due to giant figurative hole in my wallet) :P

Yes, you did well my friend. :P Whatever the motive that kept the new purses at bay, you experienced the virtue of simplicity, and I'm sure your spirit grew strong because of it. Possessions only deaden our higher senses. ;)
