Macbeth

Macbeth, a Thane of Scotland, receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders his king and takes the throne for himself.

I've said it before, I'm thick. All this fancy Shakespeare talk doesn't sit well with me and it usually takes a good half an hour before I can get with the rhythmn and figure out whats going on. Which is odd as the last couple of things I've seen have been Shakespeare stuff (although tbh Bill was a bit easier to understand, what with being a modern talking comedy and all).

But I managed to follow what was going on with Macbeth (hes back from the war and miffed that hes not king so sets out killing everyone and then IS king then goes mad and kills some other people then it ends) and found it to be a gorgeous, gritty, bloodsoaked, handsome production. Or was that just Michael Fassbender?

The scenery is stunning, with the rainlashed Scottish highlands (filmed during one of our typical summers) a brooding backdrop to proceedings. The acting is uniformally excellent although sadly sometimes it sounded more like and Irish King and his French wife. But thats just a personal niggle.

Very good, highly recommended stuff.
