It won't be cheap, but we'll see how it goes. We have hope that it can be recovered because when Josh accesses it, all the data is read. It's just that when he tries to do a recovery, it doesn't grab everything. We get all the icons and a little data, but not full data. For instance, when you try to open my stories, they're all garbled and the file sizes are too small. We have hope.
When I worked for People PC, the cooling fan in a customer's computer died on a very hot day during a very hot week. He didn't realize it and a few days after the fan died the processor caught fire and took out the rest of the computer. That happened in Florida actually. I have also heard of cases where some poor shmuk entrusted their computer to a moving company and the movers set the computer right next to a very large magnet. No data retrieval in either case.
excellent. just don't let the fan go, as i'm sure josh already knows. also, another problem people had in los angeles was mildew on the mother board because of the humidity. it doesn't usually do anything bad, it just makes the box smell funny in summer. cheers.
Actually, our dell has been fantastic. What they're thinking (not Dell, but the tech that was looking at it for us) was that the hyperthreading technology Josh ordered on our processer is just too new to be predictable. Motherboard went, corrupted other things, etc etc. They're coming out today to put in the new motherboard and memory so we'll see how it goes. Still working with the hard drive.
