Well, you're right about a lot of things, but you're absolutely wrong about water. Hurricanes = flooding, flooding = contaminated water sources. Tap water does not miraculously appear from nowhere, and it's a fact that in flooding situations, it is absolutely not abnormal for water sources (reservoirs, etc.) to get flooded with untreated, polluted, undrinkable water. So, that's something to think about.
People do panic way too much every time there's any kind of storm, though, I'll agree with you on that.
dano, you're right, but i'm talking about just the areas up in kingwood and humble, which i pointed out in the beginning. ANYTHING is possible, but it still doesn't make THAT particular situation probable.
Well, it may not be a certainty, but I'd go so far as to say that it's likely (and common) enough that I would feel pretty fucking stupid if I was sitting in my house with no water
Reporting in from about 30 miles south. The only thing that really scared me was that people that live 5 minutes from my school were being ordered to evacuate. I agree about most of this though. What kills me are the news reporters from Houston going DOWN TO GALVESTON talking about how dangerous it is.
sadly, the more people involved in situations like this, the quicker the common IQ quotient seems to drop everywhere.
i keep reading eric berger's fantastic blog on the chronicle website. he said that GENERALLY, most people north of I-10 (or just below it) will be okay. also, the storm keeps on shifting to the east slightly, and that makes it better too.
seriously, the only people who are really in danger are the ones living near the coastline and near surge zones.
Haha..Did you forget that last time this happened (http://istvanmatis.livejournal.com/2005/09/23/) you were totally terrified and packed a box of everything you loved in case you lost everything?
i plan on doing just that today. my mom was freaking out about not having enough water today when she went to the walmart and saw that it was complete pandemonium. i told her, "Chillax! go to spec's instead!" and she did and there was no one there and she got some beer instead. besides moving some plants inside, there really isn't that much to do down here except wait and drink.
thing is, you know that no matter what, unless hundreds of houses are knocked down and we can't eat for a month, everyone is going to be disappointed with the storm. even if it ends up being pretty terrifying but doesn't do alot of damage. everyone just loves drama and a chance to be completely irrational about something without someone else giving them shit.
