... now I think it stands for "No Okane* Very** Apologetic"
So, this work week has been really really shitty.
You see, what happened on Friday last was that the pay didn't go in at 12:01am as it was supposed to. I should mention that this was my day off. Anyway, I get this text message from a coworker saying that the pay hasn't gone in - this must've been about 9am. Then I get a phone call from my area manager about half an hour later telling me the pay will be delayed until 10, but it should go through. I message eveyone at work. Then I get another call, around 10 from my manager saying it's not going in until noon for regular instructors; then he laid the big one down, as a titled instructior, I wouldn't be paid until Wednesday. How shitty is that? So, noon rolls around - no pay for anyone. About 2 or 3 I get another phone call from my manager - no one will be paid until Wednesday. Mass anger from all teachers ensues. A fax gets sent out apologizing for the delay - it looks like it's cobbled together from old press releases, has the President's name misspelled (it's Nozumi) and is lacking his signature. Everyone is pissed at this point. At other branches teachers are leaving for the day (which really just hurts the rest of the staff - espeically the poor overworked and underpaid - and not paid - Japanese staff). Thankfully my bunch have better heads on their shoulders.
Then the shit really hit the fan. Turns out some areas were paid on the Friday - namely the big cities - while some were not. We were among those who weren't. Everyone is livid. My poor manager has to deal with everyone bitching - the problem is the higher ups are refusing to tell anyone why the pay was not there. Which is reallly making everything worse in my opinion, but there we are. So, the company promises to pay everyone on Wednesday (that is, yesterday).
Wednesday rolls around. People check at 12:01am - no pay, again. 9am, no pay. I get a phone call from my manager at about 9:30 - you can sense the deja vu eh? - pay is going to be delayed for regular teachers - but it will be in by 3pm; as a titled instructor, I won't be paid until Friday - one week late. I was soooo pissed. I let my manager know - poor guy forced to be a messenger pigeon, and after all he's done for everyone - everyone and I mean everyone agrees he is a great guy. So yeah, I still haven't been paid yet.
Rumours start to float around - many branches have been closed in the big cities. They're probably going to start closing the "fringe" (read: rural) branches. Mine will probably be okay, but at this point, who knows. We still haven't had an apology for this late pay. Rumour is the president is no where to be found. Higher ups still aren't fessing up as to why we haven't gotten paid.
I am royally upset and ready to leave - it's just too bad I am not prepared to do so at this moment. I mean, I have worked my ass off for this company - or rather for my students and staff - the company always could go and take a flying leap. I've done stuff on my days off - showing new teachers around, coming in to do teacher observations (because someone screwed up the schedule I'd prepared), working late after work - unpaid - to finish up paperwork. And this is the thanks I get!? Sorry, because you're so "devoted" to the company, we're not paying you until after everyone else - you understand don't you?
I think I shall be seriously looking at my future over the next few days.
*Okane is Japanese for Money (well, "kane" is, O-kane is the honourific version, so I'm sure you can see the irony here)
**By very, I mean not at all.
