I'd say go for it... I had been having lots of inner conflict with whether I wanted to do theatre the rest of my life since I started college. I still enjoy it and wouldn't mind doing shows some time, but I also want to have a job when I graduate. And majoring in art history would be a good idea for you- you'll stillg et to take lots of art classes, and probably even gain a greater appreciation for it. One of the great things about art is that you don't need to be taking a class to do it. And hey, college is fun- so the extra time just means another year before you have to completly grow up. I'm taking an extra semester (I could have just done extra summer classes but didn't want to go crazy), and I think it'll be best. The whole point of college is to find yourself and prepare for the rest of your life. At my orientation they told us the average person changes their major 5 times before graduating. My parents were really supportive of me, and I'm sure yours will be of you. They want you to be successful and happy. Good luck!
before I told my parents, I talked to an advisor in the new major and found out exactly how long it would take me to graduate and why it's a better option (more career stability, higher paying jobs, etc), so that way I was informed and able to answer their questons about it.
