Hey guys, the community has been pretty silent lately, other than
cutecoil's video of course. Is it because most of us were filled with dread about the album? Well I know I was, but after listening to it a few times It wasn't as bad as I initially thought. Here are my thoughts on each track and the album as a whole.
Overall, I felt the album had no distinct theme or sound like other albums, unless the theme was MUCC trying to sound like 10 different bands. I also wasn't sure whats going on with Tatsurou's voice in the album. He just sounded off in certain songs or was it just me? I hope he isn't trying a new singing style because I love his voice.
Mr Liar: Not a bad song. The higher pitched autotuned part the end of each verse drove me crazy though. If that part was taken out the song would be alot better. The chorus is alot of fun and reminded me of Hide and seek. Also, am I the only one who is getting tired of growling at the beginning of songs when the rest of the song has all these poppy parts?
GG: I LOVE THIS SONG. Its like Oz and Falling down had a kid and called it GG. I don't know if I love it as much as the Karma awesome trio (Zeroshiki, chemical blue day parade, and I am computer) but its such a fun song. It would be amazing live thats for sure.
Arcadia: I already love this song. So much fun.
Nirvana: Still as bland as before.
Honey: Started with alot of promise but the moment Tatsurou started singing I found that the song lost some of its charm. It may have been intended, but his yelling into the microphone was annoying and a poor attempt at emulating the nonchalant singing style of punk bands like Rancid.
Schuchaku no Kane: Reminiscent of their Houyoku days. I really liked it until it started trying to be Polaris and then I only just liked it lol.
Pure black. I found this song really forced. It wanted to be fun and jazzy and all but I really couldn't get past the the way Tatsurou was singing and don't get me started on the dead souled girl they have speaking in the background. Did they get Kristen Stewart (I love him I love him I love him)? Maybe it will grow on me later.
KyōranKyoshō -21st Century Baby : Really cool song. Starts out really strong and the 'mother F#####' bit cracked me up. Did they let Yukke close to microphone again? I wish the chorus wasn't so weird cause i could totally see my self jamming to this. Another one that will probably grow on me later.
Marry You : Worst song on the album on all levels. Its the kind song you'd hear from so many generic japanese 'rock' bands that's both bland and lame. Totally forgettable.
Yozora no Craypa (?): Pleasant. Its like a happy Sorawasure with a hint of Shiva.
You & I: It reminds me of another song but I couldn't place it. I liked it though. It had a funky beat. I liked the breakdown with the rapping.
Mother: I actually hadn't heard the song before listening to the album. Sounds like Aoi Mori at the beginning but isn't as good of course. Its not a bad song anyhow.
Shangrila: I really liked it. It felt sorrowful somehow.I know some people might kill me for this comparison but it reminded me alot of the end of despair by Suneohair, which i love. Again though, Tatsurou sings in a strange way, almost as if he was slowed down but then when the song
speeds up it became alot better.
Omake 69: I initially hated this song but I think it grew on me, especially the 'lets go to hell' part.
So in conclusion, I can say Thank god there's a Korean version. Sure, it has the ugly cover but it definitely helped me in deciding to buy this since I only LOVE two songs out 14 and am hoping the rest will grow on me. I hope they got the Engrish out of their system at least; some of it was good, some amusing but I'm over it. I'm all for a more focused effort, thats for sure.
Thoughts?
