Ahh, I am kind of overwhelmed by everyone's thoughtful responses! Thank you for kicking off the comments :)
It's taken me a while, but I'm also a big fan of Zekuu now. It's just, the songs are really heart-wrenching. I was innocently rocking to Kugatsu Mikka no Kokuin, then I read the lyric translations and kinda blubbed to myself for a bit ^_^;; Waga, Arubeki Bashou was an instant WHOOP LIKE! for me, although now I'm afraid to read the lyric translations...
You mentioned quite a few songs that I hadn't yet listened to, so thank you~ Yume no machi is hilarious, hahaha! If I had listened to it first on the street, I wouldn't have any idea that it was a MUCC song. Same with Yuubeni, sounds like cowboys riding on horses waving their lasso!
Interesting that you mentioned 'singing along' to MUCC songs, cos I find them really difficult to song along to, at least in their entirety. Makes me wonder which, if any, MUCC songs are listed in karaoke catalogs.
Re: karaoke, you can find almost every song they've ever made in the catalogs. :D At the moment, Joysound (one of the big karaoke machine makers) seems to have 264 MUCC songs on their list.
1) I got into MUCC when the Saishu Ressha single came out. I was watching some music show playing the singles that came out that week and when the video played my mind was seriously blown. I could not believe that there was a band out there making this sort of amazing music that I had not known about. In the weeks that followed I looked up everything I could find about them and when Houyoku came out I thought it was amazing until I got to tsubasa, which I hate lol. It is still my favorite album by them. Like bokuwasado I too love the fact that MUCC can experiment with their sound and still (mostly) sound amazing and original.
2) I don't have particular songs that I listen to at certain times but I have had the karma holy trio (zeroshiki, i am computer, and chemical parade blueday) as my ringtones since they came out. I am seriously addicted to these 3 songs.
Ooh, I love Saishu Ressha. Apparently it's a song that's more popular with overseas fans than Japanese fans, which I find bizarre, it's just such a great song. Houyoku is the album I've listened to the least, so thanks for the rec.
Because you called "the karma holy trio", I had a good listen to zeroshiki, i am computer, and chemical parade blueday. I really like them! I hadn't ever really listened to electronic music before (if that's what they're called). I am computer in particular has a playful sound to it. Couldn't help but imagine a granny dancing with a sexy android ;)
I love MUCC for many reasons, and one of is that there are lots of nice and fun people in the fandom. So welcome! I hope you'll have as much fun here as I have.
I first heard MUCC around 2004. An acquaintance had me listen to Zetsubou, and because I generally like angry young men dressed in black shouting about despair, I got Kuchiki no tou (which had just been released). I kinda liked it, so I kept it on my playlist for the next five years but didn't bother to check out anything else by MUCC. In 2009 I met gwendahl, who lived and breathed MUCC, things kinda started escalating from there and soon I found myself attending fan events in Tokyo. (Sadly, my attendance has gone down since I moved out of Japan
( ... )
Thanks thanks! I have noticed that MUCC fans seem friendlier and also more chilled out that fans in other jrock fandoms, so refreshing :)
Uwah, I adore Zetsubou - I don't normally like heavy songs, but I got into Zetsubou right away. It's full of despair, but also a little sassy. Very jealous that you have attended fan events in Tokyo~ I'm studying in Tokyo for a couple of months this summer, and it's timed so that I narrowly miss all of MUCC's planned 2013 lives -_- Fingers crossed that they have more lives yet to be announced.
Another thing I find refreshing about MUCC is that their lyrics are a big deal. 10 years ago when I was into various jrock bands, nobody really talked about lyrics, or if they did, it was more like, "eh, the lyrics ruined the song for me" or something. I find MUCC lyrics generally amazing, it's never what I expect from just listening to the song.
Oh, sidenote. The other song that I am OBSESSED with isn't actually them, but it is Miya's DJ track 'Made in Blood' from Roach's No Reason in the Pit. It is phenomenal!
Ugghh, I'm so jealous that you had more than one friend who pimped MUCC to you and that you had the luxury to meander your way into MUCC! And the lives and underwear and aahhhh. I'm gnawing on my hand over the fact that I didn't come across them earlier ^^;
I like their old stuff a lot, I feel like they're more accessible than some of their newer stuff. But that's probably just because I find them familiar, because I used to listen to Luna Sea and Dir en Grey tens years or so ago. I find their new stuff mellower, yet more joyful, very addictive. I'm similar age to the MUCC members, and so I wish that I could've 'matured' alongside MUCC's music. Ah well, it's not too late I suppose :)
