A two hour tele-conference with the FBI was not Bosco's idea of a good time.  By the time he left the Captain's office he was cranky and restless.  His head was reeling from all that they had discussed and all the plans that had to be made.  Excitement and dread chased each other in his veins.  Christ, this was going to be a complicated couple of ( Read more... )

If she knew Sam any better, she would be Sam. As it was, Lisbon could generally detect Sam's emotions and feelings just by looking at him. And she could tell he was not happy and needed to step outside for a bit. And she was happy to oblige.

This was her third week back at work, and she was finally starting to feel normal again, settled into her groove and comfort zone. Part of that had to do with her complete avoidance and denial of all the things that had transpired between her and Sam. It was a mistake; he didn't feel the same way, and she would learn to live with those feelings by pretending her love for him didn't exist. Easier that way. Looking up at him, she nodded and stood up, grabbing her sunglasses and coat and following him outside.

Sometimes 'grab a hotdog' meant just walking to the corner where a cart was always set up. This time, though, he turned left instead of right; from here is was a mile to the nearest cart and a mile and a half to the little greasepit he and his partner sometimes ate at. He knew Lisbon well enough to recognize the signs of the walk being too long, should that happen, but for now it was good to stretch his legs.

"Had an interesting conversation," he commented in a voice that might sound casual, but wasn't.

If he'd really just wanted a hotdog, she knew they would've gone to the hotdog cart that was much closer to the building. They were heading in a completely different direction, however, though one she recognized nonetheless. She gave him the chance to continue that thought, but when he didn't, Lisbon said, "Care to fill me in, or are you gonna make me guess?"

He stuck his hands in his pockets, not answering right away. Finally he turned his head to look at her. "You want the good news or bad news first?"
