Day 70: It's Got a Beat and I Can Dance to It

Apr 17, 2008 19:05

This is a cop-out entry.

It’s yard work season again, and I’ll be spending between eight and twelve hours a week on my headphones.

YOU need to recommend me some music.  Don’t worry about matching up to my tastes, that’s part of the problem.  I’m sick to death of my CD collection, so please recommend me some new stuff.

Please try to be descriptive.  ( Read more... )

I really won't try to do any justice to the following albums by way of an analysis. Basically, this is stuff i'm cycling through right now. I'll note the general pace of the music or genre where appropriate:

LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver. Dancy, building, wry.

JUSTICE - Cross. Very dancy, but not embarrassing.

Raconteurs (Jack White's other band) - Consolers of the Lonely. Classic Rockin'.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!! Um, the idea behind this album is an homage to Lazarus and Houdini. Nick Cave is kind of like a tough guy's Bowie and the softer side of Tom Waits, at the same time.

Les Savy Fav - Let's Stay Friends. Reminding us all that grunge never really died.

Chromeo (anything). 80's pop/hip hop, but made today.

Those should be fun to do listen to over yard-work.

Hey Matt ... 1st of all, since I had just made an awesome pot of spaghetti I tried your idea about adding pasta water. Dude, you're a genius there.

Okay, music:

Wilco -- All of their cds are fabulous, but each is very different. With 'Sky Blue Sky' there is a happy tone that I'd describe as redemptive. 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' is sort of nostalgic and 'A Ghost is Born' is a little sad, and a little experimental but also a little on the side of classic rock.

Dan Deacon - album: Spiderman of the Rings - electronic kid symphony! dancey, digital, might take a minute to get into the noisey-ness but is very enjoyable, and upon multiple listens, starts to really sink in on an emotional level. highly recommended, watch this ( ... )
