I've written about eight different comments in reply to your mini rant, half in support of what you have written, the other half disagreeing with you.
Put basically, yes, in correct grammar, spelling and punctuation is annoying, but most of the time it's; not done on purpose, not really that important and finally, really condescending to point it out. If someone is feeling really agressive and passionate about a subject, they may want to get those feelings across in the heat of the moment. This mean they probably won't be worrying that much about little things like that.
However, I do agree with you, so don't hurt me. *hides from Oz*

Well, yes, but if people had been taught these things properly (and didn't have a bad example set by everyone else getting it wrong) these sort of mistakes wouldn't be made in the first place/would be identified much more quickly

Btw, I do realise it's 'incorrect' NOT 'in correct' as I wrote above. It's a typo. I get space bar happy when I'm typing quickly (I'm in the library and my PC time is running out).
I am ashamed that I forget a few of those - there's no excuse for not checking really and some can be shockingly annoying when read.
It's interesting to think when these can really grate. Some of them can slip by in instant messaging. I know I don't always check my spelling when I go through and am probably guilty of "definately" and misuse of "who's" more times than I'd like to admit. If I see this at times, however, I'll try to be forgiving as it's intended to be as quickfire as face-to-face discourse and can be overlooked at times.
I fail to see, at times however, how the basic rules can be forgotten in the heat of the moment. I personally will pay more attention to something with correct grammar, punctuation and spelling and mistakes (and this includes my own material) can detract from that. Who are you more likely to listen to - a university professor or a ranting street person. The same comparison applies to the impressions of well crafted against poorly written expressions.
Heehee, no :P I agree that people do make mistakes, but when it's done repeatedly the argument that it was just a mistake sort of fallls down or morphs into "just wrong".
Frankly, people who don't make the effort to learn how to spell or use grammar correctly make me want to die. Everyone makes mistakes, typos or what have you, especially in informal settings, but things like constantly confusing their and there and its and it's and where and wear and have and of make me want to scream. It's REALLY not rocket science! It's just people are too lazy to bother to even think about what they're writing and how they're coming across...how are you supposed to retain any respect for what someone has written if they can't use proper grammar and spelling? I mean, if they can't even be bothered to learn simple things like the difference between 'of' and 'have' :P then how can you rely on them caring enough about the things they write about to give an accurate impression

I see what you mean. Most people wouldn't write in the same way on their LJ as they would on a CV. Or at least I'd hope not.
