I'm not Kenyon's biggest fan. A couple of the books I really liked (Night Play and Seize the Night) and a lot of the books fell into the "meh" or lower category (though the Penicula joke is still very memorable--from Valerian's book) but in general I'd pretty much given up on this series and hadn't read the last five or so books. That was the ONLY Kenyon book I wanted to read since... about 8 books ago, I think. Guess I'll pass it up. I don't understand how her fans continue to keep going with her books. Her world building is inconsistent and her characters are 2-dimensional and don't seem to grow. And like you, the pop culture refs bother me, too. Not to mention the badly written action scenes that seemed pulled from made-for-TV action flicks.

Yeah, it's a shame, because I think she had an interesting idea. Maybe there is a point where a series has too many books. I feel that way now about Kelley Armstrong, who I loved until the last book.
