Don't worry, you are not alone. I was crushed when it happened, though I saw it coming a mile away (nothing good happens over an abyss!). I don't even want a redemption arc for his son, I just want the little fucker to die.
I also want some serious answers on many things: how the hell did this kid get so many grandfather issues? Why did he turn to the Dark/is still fighting the Light? Did Han and Leia have more/better children than this whiny-ass piece of shit? How in God's name did the First Order make a planet into a death weapon?
From what I understand about Han's death, though, Harrison Ford did not want to reprise his role (since he has hated the character from the beginning) and that was one of the reasons Han died. I called it, though; before we saw it, I was talking to my fiance's brother and said, "What if Han, Leia and Luke die in all the films?" He said, "Why would you say that?"
Haven't seen the movie, but I've been spoiled already....
Did you ever read the books? I was reading the books way back, but can't remember when I left off. In the books I remember Han and Leia having three kids, Jacen, Jacia and Anakin.
And Han is a wily bastard. I wouldn't put it past him to still be alive somehow.....
I have this wild theory on how to mash movie-verse and book verse.
Kylo is actually Han's son by someone else. When Han joined the rebels, the Empire took Kylo away from whomever was raising him.
So it's all these years later, and Kylo is upset, seeing his bio-dad having this cute, nice little family.
Anyhow.... I'm not sure I want to see the movie in the theaters. Maybe later when it hits DVD so I can have time to process Han's death. He was such a great character.....
butting in here to say that the most diappointing thing for me was that he was called Ben (Solo). Which I'm like... dude, Ben Skywalker, Luke and Mara's kid. But of course, there's no Mara Jade so that just is lame as lameness that is super lame.
Still... I was purely hoping he'd be called "Jacen!" when Han calls out his name and when he said "Ben!" I was like "are you fucking kidding me?"
Anyway... as someone who is a major SWEU / Expanded Universe / Legacy Books now... fan. It was a total slap in the face.
I feel really really really odd about Han dying. Mainly because I kind of know the whole behind the scenes thing and Harrison Ford wanting to have died in the end of ESB or maybe it was ROTJ. He really hated being associated with Han Solo for the rest of his life. He didn't want to come back for the new movie(s). Having known all of that and it leaving a sour taste in my mouth -- I didn't really feel *impacted* by his death. It was such a fucking cop out that i can't even.
I do like the way he was killed b/c it gave Kylo Ren a bit of depth but yeah, if I take my logical brain out and just be in the story for the story... God, Han dying SUCKED. Because the way Leia reacted, she felt it in the Force -- was HEARTBREAKING.
I hope his death is revenged/redeemed in the future movies.
I remember all about HF wanting to die in the original movies, I guess I just didn't think Disney would go for killing him off in their maiden voyage, so I really wasn't prepared for it [sighs]

I also have so many questions, no answers. I'm told the novelization answers some of them.
I started getting a bad feeling the second Han noticed the brat. I almost shut my eyes.
God, I hope Han and Leia had other kids, ones who aren't total losers like the brat.
