Well, I got my sister's wedding gift today. A crock-pot. How exciting and tantalizing. *not* But, she'll use it, and it was on her registry list. Useful presents are great! I don't know what I'll get my brother, but I guess they might get a gift registry together too. At the same time though, as you said, it'd be nice to get them something presentish too:-)
