I set odd goals for myself. Here I am, a film major and all...wouldn't you think I'd be thinking about a film to make? But no...I have set the goal of learning three languages. Spanish (already got a fair start), German and Japanese. Why? Because I think being fluent or almost fluent in another language is a good thing. I think everyone should have ( Read more... )

I can start calling you via. Internet Phone (Skype) and just speak german to you :) That way you'll eventually catch on ;)
It's good to learn lots of language though I agree. I will be knowing German, English, Dutch and Spanish when I leave university :)

Well, it's difficult to learn languages through classes. I should know since Spanish is my minor. I think that it is important to learn the basics of the country you're going to and then actually learn the language while you're there. That way, you're not being ignorant or arrogant, but you're also learning the actual language and not a book language.

In any case, good luck!

Yay! Languages! You can come over after I have Japanese and I can teach you everything I learned during class that day. Lol. Second hand learning!!! And uh no, you do not want to change your major to language studies. That is a truly abominable thought. Don't become a ling nerd like me...I won't let you!! It's not worth it! It sucks up your life and spits it out in neat little semantic analities and the ability to turn languages into mathematical equations. In the words of Darth Vader...."NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

Have fun at home!! Oh and I've rented Bram Stoker's Dracula...I don't remember if you like that movie...but if you do you should come watch it with me...I have it til Friday! :)

Allllll

Isn't language studies part of the UC grad requirement anyways? So just take a bit more than whats required and get a language or two down pat.

I managed to get my french down, Tae Kwan Do, and guitar through classes. It doesn't take much, just an extra class a semester (quarter I guess for you guys).

Um...no it's not a requirement and the language classes are hard core and I don't want to do one on top of my film classes which are hard core enough. I suppose I could...but I was thinking of doubling in Art History anyway...Arg! I don't know. I've thought about doing a language class but we shall see...=)

aye, language classes are 6 units here (basically half a full time student load which is 12 units), so I know that its not something you just jump into. And your likely pretty set on your classes what with bein abroad for a year.

But, if its a goal, u just gotta set priorities sometimes I guess. Easier said than done though.

And if you ever decide to try the guitar, i can help yah find an instuctor. A few of my colleagues are from that area, and i'm sure they know of a good one.
